Some general comments about #WhatsApp forwards (especially during emergencies). Please try and verify news, before blindly forwarding. (1/n)
Google for more details, check multiple sources, VALIDATE against Websites/Twitter/Facebook feeds of 'official', 'verified' entities. (2/n)
When forwarding information, try and avoid plane text (it has no validating authority or time-stamp). Instead forward validated links. (3/n)
Example: instead of forwarding a traffic update text, better to forward this link from a validated source: (4/n)
Most 'official' authorities on Twitter, Facebook have a 'verified' "Blue-Tick". Or visit official websites of city/state/center govts. (5/n)
...and once again, do check the TIME-STAMP of the official news update as well. I have seen 'official' but old news getting forwarded. (n/n)

Today is 158th birth anniv of Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande.
He wrote the first modern treatise on Hindustani classical music.

Bhatkhande traveled throughout India, meeting with ustads and pandits, and researching music, and studying ancient texts.…
"After the death of his wife and his daughter, Bhatkhande abandoned his legal practice and devoted the rest of his life to systematizing the prevailing forms of Hindustani music and building on that system a coordinated theory and practice of music."
"Bhatkhande's first published work, Swar Malika, was a booklet containing detailed descriptions of all prevalent ragas. In 1909, he published Shri Mallakshaya Sangeetam, in Sanskrit, under the pseudonym 'Chatur-pandit'."

Today is the 181st birth anniversary of Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar. He was a was a noted Indian scholar, orientalist, and social reformer.

The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune was started under his leadership, by his students in 1917.…
#Bhandarkar studied at Elphinstone College in Bombay. Along with Mahadev Govind Ranade, Bhandarkar was part of the first graduate batch in 1862 from Bombay University. He obtained his Master’s degree the following year, and was awarded a PhD from University of Göttingen in 1885.
#Bhandarkar taught at Elphinstone College, Mumbai and Deccan College, Pune during his distinguished teaching career. He was involved in research and writing throughout his life. He retired in 1894 as the Vice Chancellor of Bombay University.
