From Jan 1992 to Sep 2017, 62 scribes have been killed because of their journalistic work or while doing it.
The state of UP tops the list. Of the 62 journalists we have documented died, 9 died there.
But UP is not alone. From Tripura in the east to Maharashtra in the west…
And Jammu and Kashmir in the north to Karnataka in the south, journalists have been the target of brutal violence.
26 of the documented 62 journalists were shot at. 7 were beaten to death. See the data here: bit.ly/2xPWuRM
46 of the 62 worked in regional media. This shows that people working in regional media are more at risk/vulnerable to such attacks.
Of the 62 incidents that we have been able to document, a case was registered in only 38 of them.
As we said, this is an ongoing process to track such cases. Get involved with us and help track the journalists who have been killed in the line of duty. bit.ly/2xRoWjG
Because the conversation on #PressFreedom and safety of journalists should be kept alive long after the outrage fades away.
