One major thing missing from superhero movies is fear. Nobody is ever scared of what they see.

In LOTR everything is terrifying
Look at the reaction to a Balrog in LOTR vs Surtur in Marvel. Every trailer, TV ad and line of dialog instills fear of the LOTR 🔥 demon
In Marvel ads the fire demon is just another thing to make Hulk angry
"I know what hunts you" creates more fear than any Infinity Stone
Said by a scary man in a scary place about scary things
Ultron and Vision's conversation should be the most terrifying dialog in all of Marvel.
They both lay out the future of earth. It's scary. But no human is there to hear it and react. So we as audience don't give it much weight
There is so much fear in LOTR that the Hobbits (and we the audience) are even scared of friends.
Even early on the journey is frightful
The fellowship splits because of fear. Frodo is terrified of everyone.
The Avengers split because...

I don't remember. Doesn't matter anyway.
It's not just MCU. Shouldn't Batman be terrified of Doomsday since all he seen until now are human bad guys?
They have a cave troll.
Scarier than a world ending alien.
Also did anyone notice the big bad guy in BvS looks the same as just *one* bad guy in fellowship
Doctor Strange doesn't even blink when meeting Dormammu. I know he has just seen a lot but this should be crippling scary
Arwen shows a touch of fear then a burst of strength when confronted with a legion of supernatural baddies
Look at the fear in this king's eyes
The closest we got to "fear" in Avengers was right before this scene. Almost 20 seconds of crippling fear from over a dozen films.
Ok you guys are right Batman was a bad example. He literally was terrified. Superman though...
Galadriel was more terrified of the ring than Diana was of a fire headed demon Ares which she had never seen before.
Look it's ok to be brave But Gandalf was scared for 20+ minutes since leaving Gondorian library and made every effort to avoid confrontation
It's not just MCU and DC. Nobody in TRANSFORMERS has been scared since Scorponok in the 2nd film
Meanwhile IT sets all box office records because everyone in that film is terrified of fear
It's one of the big faults of Hobbit Trilogy. Nobody is ever scared, not even the main characters, even faced with incineration
One of the most powerful parts of the 10 hour Hobbit film is Laketown. Because there is finally some fear.
Arwen racing the Nazgul is terrifying. Has the MCU created this feeling yet of a race against time, evil and mortality?
Ronan had fear potential. They were onto something great there. Also Lee Pace 🔥
The main point being that in LOTR, if a giant monster shows up, there is fear before bravery.
Guardians was great because everyone feared Ronan before finding their bravery. So when the dance happens it's so much more rewarding
I can't wait for Galadriel Goddess of Death in #ThorRagnarok
All this coming from a film series where the big bad guy is a formless shapeless lidless ball eye wreathed in flame stuck on a tower
Eowyn spent two movies in fear and was terrified of the witch king's mace. Her HEROISM is much stronger because of it.
Fear is my ally.

[BREAKING] We have confirmed from multiple sources that @AmazonStudios new billion-dollar #LOTR series will open its first season centered on a young Aragorn.

Let's discuss whats available and how this opens up Tolkien's Legendarium. A thread. #Tolkien
/1
Firstly, we must stamp out any remaining confusion:

From the first press release, we know this so-called #LOTR series will NOT be a retelling of the events of the War of the Ring. #BeenThereDoneThat

Instead it will be Appendices based and cover a lot of time and history. /2
This is the greatest advantage the show runners have: that so much of Tolkien’s storytelling, even just in “Appendix A,” covers a tremendous swath of time.

Starting with a young Aragorn narrative allows connections to his Numenorean bloodline (and to the founding of #Gondor). /3
