1/ Last week I was at @YorkUnion to debate with close Corbyn ally @DerbyChrisW “This house believes Corbyn’s Labour is the new Nasty Party.” I promised to post a report back. Bear with me on this thread as its not simple to tweet, but here goes...
2/ The debate went -
CW: "@UKLabour ‘s 500k members means Corbyn is validated"
My reply: "99% don't know your ulterior aims. They have been duped."
I then gave audience three texts (illustrated below) to outline what had been hidden from them and laid out the case that
3/ Corbyn’s ulterior aim was Communisation of the economy, supported as follows. 1st: this 2004 resolution of the Communist Party of Britain to overthrow the Blair ‘clique’ & use Labour as a vehicle for revolution. (quick sidetrack> CPB is close to Corbyn for fwg reasons
4/ (i) 40 yr CPB member Andrew Murray, Unite chief of staff, ‘joined’ Labour Dec 2016 & was seconded by Unite to run #ge2017 campaign for Corbyn. (ii) @STWuk leadership went Murray/Corbyn/Murray. Corbyn calls him “democratic socialist and member of the Labour party like me"
5/ (iii) Corbyn could not have been columnist on Morning Star, CPB’s paper, if he was uncomfortable with CPB platform. <end of sidetrack)
2nd: I then explained CPB platform: the 'revolutionary' end of capitalism, then 'socialism' & finally full 'communist form' of society(below)
6/ 3rd: To counter the reply “thats CPBs socialism not Corbyn Labour’s” I then explained Blair was no socialist & Corbyn was actually returning to authentic pre-war Labour socialism & illustrated it by reading this description of socialism published by Labour in 1911, 24 & 33
7/ I finished by referring to John McDonnell’s statements about wanting to destroy capitalism/the system and repeated my claim that 99% of Labour’s new joiners had no idea they were signing up to a communist-inspired attack on the market economy and had been duped.
8/ At that point if I had been wrong CW, who had a copy of Morning Star in front of him, would have vehemently denied it. He merely restated that the system was broken (did I want to keep things as they were?) & people had flocked to Labour for something new. Labour would give it
9/ In the context of our debate it was a near-enough clear affirmation that Corbyn’s Labour group intend to 'socialise' (aka communise) the economy. It will not be in any manifesto (no more ‘suicide notes’) but the end goal is plain. Only question is their timescale and
10/ how far along they get before the economy fails. The trouble with cultists is that they are like suicide bombers & don't mind taking the system down with them if is the path to (in this case socialist) utopia. They hope not to but if it comes they still think its worth it
11/ At another point in the debate Laura Pidocks 'visceral' hate of the 'enemy' Tory MPs was raised. I said in these troubled times we must all talk & not stereotype those we disagree with. No one has a monopoly of truth. Chris was not prepared to agree. Hate appears to rule. Sad

Spent this morning re-reading the report by Belarusian archaeologists into the Soviet killing fields at #Kuropaty outside Minsk for my next book. An estimated 102,000 were shot there in 1937-41.
Nearby villagers witnessed events & gave chilling eye-witness accounts (thread)
Local kids used to sneak through the fence to collect berries. One 11 year old girl got trapped inside one day when NKVD lorries arrived with more victims. Terrified she watched it all...
The trauma experienced by that young girl watching it all can scarcely be imagined. She was marked by it for the rest of her life

A glimpse into the history of Soviet repression: One of hundreds of pages from 'These Names Accuse', listing the fate of individual Latvians deported to Soviet Russia in 1940-41. Documents like these graphically illustrate the experience of the victims of Soviet Communism. 1.
The details shown bring home the human tragedy of Soviet repression in the Baltic States & help us to understand why the suffering of that period remains an integral part of the national consciousness of these countries today. The childhood of Vanda Buners (#5 on the list)...
would have ended suddenly at the age of 13 when the NKVD arrived unannounced to deport her family, including her 16 year old brother, giving them no more than a few hours notice to pack, perhaps less. Their father was murdered in front of them as they were arrested... 3/7
