Decades later I sought office for the U.S. House and became the first black woman to ever serve in Alabama's Congressional delegation where I presently represent Selma, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and more. - @Sewell4Congress

My heart almost burst with joy to know that Selma — home of the sacred ground where Freedom Fighters were bloodied and beaten for the right to vote — Selma, helped seal the deal for Doug Jones in last night's #ALSenate election! - @Sewell4Congress

The defeat of Roy Moore wasn’t about right vs. left. It was about right vs. wrong. Selma came through. And so did a Hell of a lot of black women. - @Sewell4Congress

Think about that. Descendants of Alabamians who once faced literacy tests and had to guess how many marbles were in a jar in order to vote, stood up against hatred and intolerance and made the difference at the ballot box. - @Sewell4Congress

And you know what? This isn’t a new thing. Black women vote. - @Sewell4Congress

Support from black women was key in last month's VA gov race, where Democrat Ralph Northam brought home a big W. And no other voting bloc supported New Jersey Gov-elect Phil Murphy at higher %s than black women. - @Sewell4Congress

Doug Jones is a wonderful man and was a terrific candidate who would not have won without the turnout we saw from black voters — black women in particular. - @Sewell4Congress

Black women have been voting to represent their best interests as Democrats more fiercely and more consistently than any other voting bloc. We cannot and will not take them for granted! - @Sewell4Congress
