FEELS: One year ago today, a humble google doc began transforming our democracy and the lives of millions of people, including my own. #OneIndivisible 1/
This time last year, I was in a pit of despair. As a brown skinned Indian woman immigrant-turned-citizen, the election results took a toll on me and I didn’t know what to do. All I knew is that I had to do something. 2/
Driven by equal parts fury and desperation, I read the Indivisible Guide, joined my local chapter @IndivisibleSF, and started fumbling down a path to find my way into participatory democracy. 3/
And just like that my life completely changed. From neuroscientist to now the new State & Local Policy Manager for @IndivisibleTeam, I’m bringing evidence-based thinking into policy at a time when alternative facts seem to rule the world. 4/
Today on @IndivisibleTeam’s first birthday, let's celebrate just some of the ways in which we have seen democracy work this year. 5/
This year, we made @SenFeinstein hold her first town hall in over 25 years. We killed zombie TrumpCare not once, not twice, but three times. California and Illinois became a sanctuary states. It’s almost Christmas and the GOP hasn’t been able to get a damn thing done. 6/
We translated this energy into electoral victories, taking two new democratic trifectas in NJ and WA in November and literally came within 12 votes of flipping the Virginia House of Delegates blue. We flipped a Senate seat in the DEEP SOUTH. #ALSEN 7/
Happy birthday, Indivisible! May our next year be even more kickass than the last! #OneIndivisible 8/8
