Where we are versus where we were 2 mos. ago:
•ICE given mandate to separate children from their families
•people sent back to the countries they came from, despite the risk of murder
•smear campaigns against career nonpartisan members of FBI.

•re-litigating every issue that came out of Clinton campaign
•sycophancy at the highest levels (Pence esp., but all GOP)
•continued attacks on reproductive freedom, incl. passage in Ohio of unconstitutional abortion legislation
•uptick in racial violence, esp. towards Muslim women
•far-right speakers being normalized, ie, Bannon making public appearances for politicians, incl. a test float of a 2020 run for pres.
•American oligarchs changing media, incl. Koch brothers slowing down rollout of fiber optic, FCC revoking #NetNeutrality, WSJ revealed as suppressing negative articles about Trump.
These are the few things I can recite from recent memory--the list of our slip into authoritarianism has taken great leaps ahead in the last couple of weeks.
It is not too much to state that we have to reach a critical mass of Americans actively pushing back against what is becoming a steam engine of oppression.
And I'm not sure it's going to happen.
In part because so many Americans are new to activism, and might be looking to follow others, not lead themselves.
Which is understandable. The Sixties was a LONG time ago; the Gulf War (1 & 2) were the last time there was large eruptions of public dissent.
Protest and activism has been limited to specific fights for civil rights among different groups, but rarely on the same playing field.
But we're going to have to all push back.
Together: moderate Republicans will have to find their sea legs quickly in the language of activism.
Including putting their bodies in the streets side by side with those they have not often sided with.
Moderate Republicans will have to move against tyranny with us.
If we only have the Dems and the Left in the protest arena, it will give the newly empowered tyrants the will and the excuse to put down our resistance.
We will be dissidents, the rabble. We will be sitting ducks for tyrants who are looking to silence us, and they will.
So this is a plea to ALL moderate Republicans to place yourself in the fray. You MUST fight back.
This is not the GOP of your past. This is not Reagan conservatism.
And you must speak LOUDLY. Your country depends on you.
We've had some terrible moments in history, but this moment--today--is potentially one we cannot return from.
And without the #coalitionofalldemocraticforces fighting together as a block now, we won't be able to debate our positions and differences in governance later.
If you live in a GOP world but are having grave misgivings, trust your instincts. And then show up to a protest. Meet people in your town who are similarly concerned.
And if you don't feel able to make that bold step, tag me. I'll talk to you. I'll bet a lot of people would.
Do you have that weird black sheep in your family who is always left of center?
Approach them privately and talk to them about your gut instincts.
Because believe me, we on the Left--not just the radicals, but those barely across the aisle from you--need you. We want you to participate.
We are at a sheer precipice.
We need every voice to yell against the darkness.
