THREAD: I've seen this picture often. It lists 66 programs that Trump has/may cut in order to fund the #TaxScam. I was thinking 66 programs - but what ARE those programs. I intend to go through each one and see just how we ALL (that means Trump's base) are effected.
1. McGovern-Dole Food for Education Program.

The McGovern–Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program helps support education, child development and food security in low-income, food-deficit countries around the globe. The program provides for the
donation of U.S. agricultural commodities, as well as financial and technical assistance, to support school feeding and maternal and child nutrition projects.
Yes, this means that we are helping to feed the world. Before you get your panties in a bunch - what are we feeding them with? Yep, the crops and products produced by US FARMERS and SMALL BUSINESSES.
2. Rural Business-Cooperative Service
USDA’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service offers programs to support business development and job training opportunities for rural residents.

Our programs help provide the capital, technical support, educational
opportunities and entrepreneurial skills that can help rural residents start and grow businesses or access jobs in agricultural markets and in the bio-based economy. USDA and our public and private partners are connecting rural residents to the global economy by:
Supporting business growth and development;
Facilitating sustainable renewable energy development;
Developing regional food systems;
Generating and retaining jobs through recreation and natural resource restoration, conservation, and management;
Increasing access to broadband
So - I see jobs, jobs, jobs and WHAT?!?! INCREASING ACCESS TO BROADBAND? - So no more dial-up for our rural brothers and sisters? Say it isn't so.
3. Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program

This program helps very small, financially distressed rural communities <10,000 people extend and improve water and waste treatment facilities that serve local households and businesses.
Good practices can save tax dollars, improve the natural environment, and help manufacturers and businesses to locate or expand operations.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking - I'm thinking the same thing - I need my water and I need a toilet. BUSINESS and MANUFACTURERS need the same. What does that mean for you? JOBS, no paying for a well to be drilled - no septic system. This is basic stuff right here.
4. Single Family Housing Direct Loans

This program assists approved lenders in providing low- and moderate-income households the opportunity to own adequate, modest, decent, safe and sanitary dwellings as their primary residence in eligible rural areas.
Eligible applicants may build, rehabilitate, improve or relocate a dwelling in an eligible rural area. The program provides a 90% loan note guarantee to approved lenders in order to reduce the risk of extending 100% loans to eligible rural homebuyers.
So basically this is a path to home ownership for low and moderate income households. I think anyone could understand how being able to own a home as opposed to paying rent is such a GREAT program.
5. US Economic Development Administration

EDA’s economic footprint is wide and its tool box is extensive—including technical assistance, post-disaster recovery assistance, trade adjustment support, strategic planning and research and evaluation capacity, thereby
allowing the agency to offer the most effective investment to help communities succeed in the global economy.
So these folks do a lot. They help with infrastructure improvements ie roads. Jobforce improvements ie training. Trade assistance?! Wut? How does a manufacturer of hardwood products compete against low cost lumber from China and Canada? They help manufacturers tap new
and emerging markets. Did you notice that they provide post disaster recovery assistance?!?! Many of us have endured disasters, others have sat by helplessly watching- these folks help communities recover.
6. Manufacturing Extension Project

MEP is a public-private partnership with Centers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico dedicated to serving small and medium-sized manufacturers. Last year, MEP Centers interacted with 25,445 manufacturers, leading to $9.3 billion in sales,
$1.4 billion in cost savings, $3.5 billion in new client investments, and helped create and retain more than 86,602 jobs.
I know you're like....I hate statistics. This is a REALLY neat program. Essentially they help manufacturers (think craft breweries) expand their production and sales while holding costs. I had no idea that something like this existed.
This is an excellent article that explains a little more about how this awesome resource helps us all drink better beer.

7. Minority Business Development Agency

WHO WE ARE: MBDA is the only Federal Government agency solely
dedicated to the growth and global competiveness of minority
business enterprise.
WHAT WE DO: Our initiatives, programs, and services provide greater
access to capital, contracts, and markets for minority-owned
businesses.
WHY WE DO IT: Minority-owned firms expand the U.S. economy,
strengthen local communities, and support greater job creation.
Now between you and me (lots of Trumpers might not care much for this program.) But the truth is, diversity is a wonderful thing and by 2050 the majority may actually be minorities. I definitely approve!
8. NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

NOAA is an agency that enriches life through science. Our reach goes from the surface of the sun to the depths of the ocean floor as we work to keep citizens informed of the changing environment around them.
This one doesn't need much explanation. These folks handle the weather (if you've ever heard that hilarious computer generated voice saying "NOAA weather radar has indicated..." They are also full (well dwindling) cadre of scientists trying to sound the gong about....
climate change. Those of us who believe the science understand that this is a very critical topic that should not be ignored. 😞
9. 21st Century Community Learning Centers

This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs;
and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
This is an agency within the Department of Education. They award grants to state education agencies who then funnel it to the local level. I looked to my local state, Ohio then to a particular school that has been awarded a grant for an example of the sorts of programs that
are being funded. This is from Cleveland Elementary Neighborhood School (Dayton, OH)
After School Activities In conjunction with the Neighborhood School Center/YMCA:
Soccer
PAWS to Read
Healthy Lifestyles
Mentoring and tutoring programs for various ages
Parent programs
Intramurals for grades 4-6
Bowling
Football
Track and field

I can't tell you for sure which of these activities receive the funding - apparently education is a wild, twisting jungle of necessity.
10. Comprehensive Literacy Development Grants -->Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program

The purpose of the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) discretionary grants is to create a comprehensive literacy program to advance literacy skills —
including pre-literacy skills, reading, and writing — for students from birth through grade 12, including limited-English-proficient students and students with disabilities.
So this grant aims directly at literacy. I used my local state again, Ohio. There's a rule called , the Third Grade Reading Guarantee (I don't know if this is fed, state or what) but it aims to ensure that all students are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.
Through this initiative, schools diagnose reading issues, create individualized Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans, and provide intensive reading interventions.
So I'm going to take a little sidebar here. I was raised in parochial schools and was always in the top reading group. Contrast that with a member of the family with an 8 year old who can barely read. They live in a different state, and I can almost guarantee you..
that her parents don't try. A program like this might be the ONLY way that she will succeed with literacy. There are A LOT of people out there who can't/won't help their child succeed. It is up to US to give them every chance possible. /end soapbox.
11. A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. ...

This is in addition to the Pell Grant. Don't really need to expound on this. Except to say college can be incredibly costly.
