There would be nothing to negotiate over if the GOP had just taken care of DACA and CHIP themselves, as the repeatedly say they want to do.
Trying to blame the #TrumpShutdown on the Democrats is taking the process of running the government and isolating it to a single vote.
But these are items that have been around for months. They procrastinated and now they’re blaming it on their roommate for not letting them stay up all night cramming.
It’s the kind of story a spoiled kid concocts after the first semester of college after they’re put on academic probation. “I would have turned in an A-worthy final if my roommate had let me stay up all night and check her notes.”
The GOP should have done their work well before this deadline. They could have worked out a compromise that gets through both Houses. They could have passed a GOP-only version like they did with the tax cut. This shutdown wasn’t inevitable!
Now that we’re here, the GOP is trying to get you to believe that their ability to affect government hinges on what Democrats want, as if they didn’t just pass a 1.5T tax cut without any help.
