Dear brother and sister officers active here, especially you retired ones: I have some concerns. I hope you'll listen. Why are so many of us shilling for far-Right politicians? It's dishonourable and foolish.
#AustraliaDay brought it into focus. Can any of us really argue with the proposition that modern #Australia is founded on the conquest of this continent, the dispossession and genocide of its first people? Yet I'm seeing you do just that.
Anthropogenic #climatechange and the consequences of #environment destruction are about as scientifically controversial as gravity or evolution. Yet I see some of you desperately lying about that, too - as though you owned coal mines.
And the right to withdraw labour, that you cast as militant October-revolution stuff, as seen lately in #SydneyTrains? Can you really believe the average employer looks after workers like we did our troops? (I've been a worker - it isn't so.)
Here's the point - you already know all this. Critical thinking, evaluating sources of information, weighing probabilities, sifting truth from lies were all part of your jobs. You KNOW these far-Right positions you push are lies. You have become liars.
Why do it? There's nothing in it for you. Nothing that goes close to the honour you once had. It's time to stop lying, to stop using your status to convince others of your lies. Tell the truth, and reclaim what honour you may still have.
You know who you are. Sort this out, those who would still be my brothers and sisters.
