The #TrumpBudget is more than numbers on a page. It lays out an agenda to strip away people’s rights and health care. #HandsOff
Here’s what the plan would do. [Thread]
Gut both the Affordable Care Act and the #Medicaid program — the insurance plan for one in five women of reproductive age. For these women, Medicaid makes the difference between access to basic care, like birth control — or doing without.
Threaten 2.4 million people’s access to birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other preventive care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
Eliminate the Teen Pregnancy Prevention program — but continue ineffective abstinence-only-until-marriage funding.
Double down on policies allowing health care workers to deny information and care to women and #LGBTQ people.
Attempt to ban constitutionally guaranteed access to safe and legal abortion for immigrants in ICE detention facilities.
Slash international funding for family planning by over 50% and emphasize “natural birth control” techniques such as the rhythm method over other, more effective methods.
Last year, the FY18 #TrumpBudget was a roadmap for the harmful administrative actions they took all year — and today, it's clear that the Trump administration values neither our health nor our rights. #HandsOff

If there is one thing you take away from yesterday’s hearing, it’s this: Brett Kavanaugh is no Supreme Court Justice. #StopKavanaugh
While the fact that Trump only nominated Kavanaugh because he would gut Roe v. Wade was enough to disqualify Kavanaugh, yesterday further proved he is unfit to be a Supreme Court justice.
While the fact that Kavanaugh has already blocked access to abortion & birth control and would threaten access to affordable care was enough to disqualify Kavanaugh, yesterday further proved he is unfit to be a Supreme Court justice.
The reality is that the RIGHT guaranteed by Roe v. Wade is a hollow right without ACCESS. Roberts voted to eliminate access in the Whole Woman's Health decision, where he agreed that forcing women to drive hundreds of miles to access abortion is not an “undue burden.”
Roberts – like Brett Kavanaugh’s judicial heroes, Rehnquist and Scalia – has not seen an abortion restriction he didn’t like: he’s voted to uphold every single one. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
We’ve been abundantly clear: We won’t tolerate attacks on our health care, rights or communities — but GOP Senate Leadership is still pushing a vote to criminalize abortion after 20 weeks. Trump would sign it. #StopTheBans
Allow us to break down the ways this is insulting and harmful.
First and most importantly, women should be able to control their bodies and can make their own health care decisions without interference from politicians.
That should be enough. But if you need more, we know what happens when lawmakers play politics with women’s health care. It puts women and doctors in unimaginable situations — like needing to end a pregnancy for serious medical reasons but being unable to. #StopTheBans
