Like sure, sometimes people refuse to accept apologies. And sometimes apologies aren't enough if there's a pattern of behavior showing a lack of incremental improvement.

But mostly, when folks say, "oops, sorry," it ends things. Especially these days, when folks have shifted from the patterns of #hasjustinelandedyet. There's an attempt to give people space to "oops" their way back.

anyway, I don't care, except people I try to take seriously seem to think Bari Weiss is some kind of victim for doing something casually racist and then not saying oops.

And the idea that people being upset at Weiss' casual racist comment ... I am not saying she /is/ ontologically a racist, I am saying that the assumption that a woman who presents as Asian is an immigrant comes from a racist place ... is somehow bad for Democracy? #no

Having people figure out how to talk about identity and difference and achievement without perpetuating racist norms is GOOD for democracy. It's NECESSARY for democracy.
