Hey author people maybe dunking on your cover artists isn't the best way to use a social media platform but what do I know right #TerryGoodkind #Fantasy
Like I can't even afford to commission cover art because 1.) I'm a grad student and 2.) I know good art costs good money. It's one of my goals to be able to do that though. But being that dismissive of something paid for by the publisher is just unbelievably petty.
Plus I use public domain, commercial-use available art that I like for my covers so it's not like I'm about to start tearing it down on Twitter like "oh yeah I get it Rembrandt you like brown oooooh". Such silliness.
Specifically I've gotten all my cover art but one from Getty's Open Content program, which has cool stuff to look at even if it's not for book covers: bit.ly/2sSqfjz
For instance, here's a book I wrote with a cover I made from some of that there public domain art amazon.com/dp/B01CPNH7DM
I also made one of those Patreon things once and will definitely post there if you guys want some of that sweet sweet worldbuilding content. patreon.com/defaultking
Guys buy the artist's art: roman-noire.com
Yeah actually it's roman-noir.com but you should still go there. I'm still trying to process #AnnihilationMovie and accidentally going viral so some slack is humbly requested.
Here's another thread for those of you who are into supporting cover artists more directly.

LONG HISTORY THREAD

So I'm gonna own right off the bat that this isn't my original idea but something that I've seen brought up a lot of times in things like history TIL threads. With that out of the way, I do feel like brainstorming this a bit more.

First off, Spanish colonialism connected Western Europe to Africa (Northern African Moors and primarily Western African slaves) to the Americas (Gulf of Mexico, SW US down to Chile etc) to Asia (Marianas, Philippines and China). Other countries participated too but stay with me.
Their main goal was to connect Spain to the Spice Islands (Moluccas/Maluku) and convert people to Catholicism along the way. The papal bull Inter caetera issued in 1493 and Treaty of Tordesillas the next year "allowed" the division of the New World between Spain and Portugal.
