1) Why am I, a remainer from Kent, putting all my energy into the #GreatNorthernMarch, rather than just getting on with activities in my own region?
It's because we need to mobilise the North to win this fight against Brexit. The north is where Brexit can and will be stopped.
2) If it were just about passion, I’d be going to Maidenhead on 24 March – to shout at Theresa May and wave a flag. But passion itself is going to get us nowhere. We need strategy to succeed. And the North is the place where we can best turn the tide.
4) But outside these cities it’s very different. These places have few remain groups and few who dare to speak truth against lies. The small towns and villages voted leave because they felt left behind. They had enough years of neglect and voted for promises of a brighter future.
5) We need them to realise that this neglect was by London, not from the EU. That it was the regional funds from the EU that paid for the rebuilding of city centres, of roads and rail, broadband and other infrastructure - and that they can't trust London to do that in future.
6) The people of the North are slowly beginning to realise that Brexit will not deliver its promises. They are starting to see that Brexit is a threat to their jobs, their purchasing power, their healthcare, their social services and their rights. But this is a very slow process.
7) Will the message get to all the people in all the small towns and villages on time, while the propaganda machine of offshore newspaper barons continues to bombard them with lies? It is a risk we cannot afford to take.
8) We need the North needs to mobilise and organise now. We need Remainers to stand up all across the region, and take the campaign out of the cities deep into the countryside. Groups like @NE4EU and @NW4EU are beginning to do this, but we want groups in every constituency.
9) This is why #GreatNorthernMarch matters so much. It is our one chance to galvanise the dissent and turn it into positive action. We don't just want thousands on the streets for a day, we want them to take the message home and continue the struggle in the places they came from.
10) This is why I am spending my time working with the Northern groups to put on a great march in Leeds.
