I was pleasantly surprised last year when GovLarryHogan decided to ban fracking in Maryland. I was happy! So proud that my state was moving in a more progressive direction than some other states.
Then the disappointment came back.... because we found out that there’s a pipeline headed for the Potomac river.
This pipeline is called the Eastern Panhandle Expansion Project proposed by #TransCanada. We’re calling it the #PotomacPipeline. It’s purpose is to carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania to West Virginia. And in order to get it there, it needs to rip through a sacred river.
Sacred is word here that so many settlers and non natives tilt their head at. You heard me correct. That river is alive. And it doesn’t belong to you. We belong to it. And we have an obligation to protect it. Which is why I’m calling on gov Hogan right now.
So what has me confused is this: how does Governor Hogan (@GovLarryHogan) ban #fracking statewide in Maryland, but sit in silence when the threat of dangerous fracked gas approaches us from a different angle?
Maybe @GovLarryHogan doesn’t see the Potomac river as part of Maryland. Ok. Whatever. Cool. But if he doesn’t think that millions of people in Maryland, DC, and VA get their water from this river, I need him to wake up.
He’s about to start drinking fracked gas, too. Cuz let’s face it: all pipelines leak. (See keystone XL. link: google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.… )
Over 210,000 gallons spilled from that pipeline. By the way, that was another one of #TransCanada ‘s projects.
I’d say Hogan has had it pretty easy right now. I don’t think we’ve been nearly as hard on him as we can be when it comes to environmental issues throughout the state.
That’s about to change though. He’s about to feel some pressure from the people. We’re rising up.
Governor Hogan, if you’re reading this, go ahead and continue to sit comfortably. Sit quietly and ignore us. Show us what a great dude you are while turning your back on thousands of people.
I realize he has yet to make a decision but I’m just saying- the decision should be clear. It’s an easy answer: no. This is completely unnecessary. It’s poisonous. We are looking forward to clean, renewable energy. Pipelines are in the past.
Tell us how “honored” you are to stand with Maryland citizens. If you really “stand” with us, you’d oppose this pipeline. You’d be next to us opposing this pipeline; pollution; dirty infrastructure.
Those things have no place here. The way we do things in the US is unsustainable as it is. We don’t want this. We don’t need this.
Thousands and thousands of people are going to suffer from this pipeline leak. And if you think the communities around the state will welcome you into their spaces after a leak, you’ve got another thing coming. @GovLarryHogan
If you let this pipeline rip through this river, you’ve got rep to haunt you for the rest of your life.
The living river that my ancestors, my people have lived off of for thousands of years will once again have to endure more trauma from settlers like Governor Hogan from the spill of fracked gas. More abuse. More neglect and disrespect. After this river had given us so much...
There are some nasty consequences ahead if we don’t do something about this. Consequences for all of us.
Yesterday I got word that Hogan only has a few days to formally oppose the pipeline. Today is one of the last days, if not the last day, to call him about the pipeline.
PLEASE CALL GOV. HOGAN TODAY and urge him to oppose the Potomac pipeline. 410-974-3901 or 800-811-8336 . We need as many people as possible to keep their phones ringing.
I’m tagging as many people and orgs in the dmv area. This is urgent. I’m not watching my water get poisoned because someone else wants to get rich. We need help. Maryland, DC, VA residents. THE PISCATAWAY PEOPLE. Wildlife. The environment. Etc. etc. etc. please help.
Calling on @BenJealous to consider environmental issues a threat. The #PotomacPipeline threatens our safety, our drinking water, our wildlife, etc. I hope you join the opposition because the future of Maryland can not and will not have dirty infrastructure.
