(THREAD) Could police be classified as domestic terrorists? #BlueIsis #Corruption

Here is why we need massive reforms to our "justice" system. #ConstitutionFirst

2/ According to the Washington Post, 987 people were shot and killed by law enforcement last year alone.

3/ In total, 1,147 people were killed by law enforcement last year. 92% were killed by police shootings. Tasers, physical force, and police vehicles accounted for most other deaths.

policeviolencereport.org
4/ Last year, the youngest person killed by police was 6-year-old Kameron Prescott.

5/ Officers were charged with a crime in only 13 of these cases. One percent of all killings by police.
6/ According to Reuters, law enforcement have killed 1,026 people using a Taser. (Apparently, it's not "non-lethal.")

7/ Here is one example of how police used a stun gun to torture a teenager.

8/ Many cops paint a blue line on the American flag. What message are police trying to send when doing so violates the "Flag Code?" See 4 U.S.C. § 8(g).

9/ #FlagCode : "(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature." 4 U.S.C. § 8.

10/ Not only do police violate the Flag Code when they paint a blue line on *our* flag; but it may demonstrate the police herd mentality of *us versus them* — and that *only* "blue lives matter." #ThinBlueLine #Corruption

11/ USA Today reports that the "number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty dropped sharply in 2017, marking the second-lowest toll in more than 50 years." @Journo_Christal

12/ According to @Reason: "The broad number, which includes traffic and other accidents as well as illnesses (mostly heart disease), is used to support claims that 'a cop is killed every so many hours.'" @edkrayewski

13/ Over a five-year period, the 10 cities with the largest police departments used well over one billion dollars in taxpayer money to payoff police-misconduct cases.

14/ A few months ago, I tweeted the top police-misconduct settlements. These amounts did not include police-misconduct jury awards.

15/ According to the UCLA Law Review, "individual police officers virtually never pay anything toward settlements and judgments entered against them."

16/ About 1,100 police officers are arrested per year. @TomJackmanWP

17/ Here is a registry that catalogues several thousand crimes committed by police officers between 2005 and 2013. @philstinson

policecrime.bgsu.edu
18/ Allegations of police misconduct rarely result in charges. @NateSilver538

19/ Even if convicted, police keep their taxpayer-funded pensions. For example, Lee Baca will pocket over $328,000 per year. For life. @LAcrimes @kchristensenLAT

20/ When police aren't held accountable, they often hide under an absurd legal doctrine called "qualified immunity."

21/ Qualified immunity is a doctrine that protects police from misconduct that would send someone without a badge to jail. @ConLawWarrior

cato.org/multimedia/cat…
22/ Meanwhile, the salary of police officers have skyrocketed to 'obscene' amounts.

23/ "Public safety unions say the pay packages ensure a well-earned retirement for workers in bruising jobs." - @mmcphate

nytimes.com/2017/03/02/us/…
24/ The National Review, a conservative publication, notes that law enforcement unions have too much power.

25/ Despite overcompensation, law enforcement continue to loot taxpayers through dubious means. Just this week, a Sheriff was discovered to have taken about $750,000 from taxpayers to buy a beach house. @ConnorASheets

26/ A critic of the Sheriff, Matthew Qualls, was arrested just four days after he criticized the Sheriff for misuse of about $750,000 in taxpayer funds. #Retaliation

27/ Another case from just this week: Two officers are under investigation for stealing money and selling the home of a 75-year-old woman suffering from dementia. Officers even had the 75-year-old shipped out of the country.

28/ One of the officers who allegedly stole money and sold the home of the 75-year-old woman is identified as Stephanie Angel. The other officer has yet to be identified.

29/ Strangely, Stephanie Angel was even given a 'commendation,' by her police department, for her work "representing the department in a positive light." This was the commendation given for 'helping' the 75-year-old:

htv-prod-media.s3.amazonaws.com/files/stephani…
30/ According to public records, the supervising officer who gave Stephanie Angel a commendation, Sean Berry, was paid over $213,000 per year in total taxpayer-funded compensation.

transparentcalifornia.com/salaries/2015/…
31/ According to the Police Violence Report, "Police recruits spend 7x as many hours training to shoot than they do training to de-escalate situations." @samswey
32/ In the Parkland, Florida shooting tragedy, when faced with a REAL physical threat (and not just another unarmed person), four cops hid.

17 people died.

33/ Police only entered Douglas High School after waiting 11 minutes. By then, Mr. Cruz had already "left the scene." Cruz was arrested about two miles away.

34/ If police don’t have to protect the public, what good are they?

35/ Here are just 90 videos of police misconduct. Most of those harassed, injured, or killed by police were unarmed. @gavinseim
