Time for a little #ThrowbackThursday
First,a poll. Did you know that current CPC leader Andrew Scheer (affectionately known to some as “Little Andrew”) was once the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons under ex-pm Stephen Harper?
Did you know that as speaker, Andrew Scheer was a CLIENT of a firm he was asked to make a ruling on regarding an alleged breach of parliamentary privilege (robocalling into opposition MP Irwin Cutler’s riding, making false statements). Reference: CBC article Dec 4, 2011
Did you know that the firm hired by now CPC leader Andrew Scheer (Campaign Research) was hired by at least 39 Conservative candidates during that time? That list will be added to this thread a little bit later ...
Doug Ford’s book says that he and Rob Ford had hired the founders of Campaign Research sometime in March 2010, when Rob had decided to run for mayor of Toronto. Nick Kouvalis got the bulk of the job. CR had “specialized cutting-edge telephone outreach systems”.
Less than two weeks before the 2011 federal election, Andrew Scheer’s Regina-Q’Appelle riding association in SK transferred funds to the Guelph campaign for Conservative candidate Marty Burke - Guelph was also investigated for fraudulent & misdirecting calls.
This was known as the “Pierre Poutine” affair and was connected to the local Conservative campaign. At the time, Andrew Scheer sat on the board of his SK riding association and his spokeswoman said he “just wanted to help out Mr. Burke”, who was originally from Regina.
The same Saskatchewan riding association gave cash to both Guelph and to Tories (Conservatives) in Mississauga East-Cooksville. Hmm - who was the Conservative candidate in that riding? (this and previous tweet reference The Globe and Mail article March 21, 2012).
On 2011, this riding (first created in 2008), was taken from the Liberals by the Conservatives by a very slim 676 votes (YOUR VOTE MATTERS). Wladyslaw Lizon was the candidate. Liberal Peter Fonseca regained the seat in 2015. GAM article link: theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/…
Hmm. Do you think that the extra cash might have helped this riding? Let's have a look-see.
This is an interesting analysis of the Missisauga East - Cooksville federal riding between 2008 and 2015. It flipped from Liberal to Conservative and back to Liberal, but this analysis highlights the amounts and percentages of Conservative $$$ they pumped in. Follow the money!
Going back in my thread, remember that this riding was one of the ones that received cash from Andrew Scheer's Regina Qu'Appelle riding association "because they needed help". Wow. Everyone could use friends like "Little Andrew", couldn't they? Spending limits PLEASE.
Also notable that this happened within the writ period. What's a writ and why does it get dropped? Glad you asked. It's important. See next tweet.
In Canada when the federal gov't wants to (or is required to) dissolve Parliament, a WRIT of election is drawn up for EACH riding in Canada by the Chief Electoral Officer. The Governor General formally issues all writs. The election officially starts when the writ is dropped.
The dropping of the writ is IMPORTANT, because this is when election spending limits take effect.
Scheer's riding association (the one he sat on the board of), issue funds to the Mississauga East - Cooksville federal riding AFTER the writ was dropped. Maybe significant. This thread will continue but pausing for now. PLEASE LIKE or RETWEET 1st post of thread from my profile.
I should point out for my American friends and colleagues that, here in Canada, RED is for LIBERALS and BLUE is for CONSERVATIVES. ORANGE is for the New Democratic Party. GREEN is for GREENs. We have a few others. It's not black & white, tho. In BC, Liberals act like CONs. #FBR
Time to reactivate this thread after a break. Feel free to start at the top if you’re new to Canadian politics. A quote by Doug Ford “ The PC party needs an enema”. Strange, eh? I looked it up. Wikipedia. Then Urban Dictionary. Um - is this really what he means? #SayNoToDoFo
A chaotic family aspiring to yet a higher office. Can Doug Ford slip slide his way through a provincial election to bring a libertarian populist regime to Ontario? Just when you thought we’d dodged the tRump bullet ... thestar.com/news/gta/2016/…
