#DisclosuresTribunal O'H now goes to transcript of Marian @MarianRTE show on June 18, 2017 which was hosted by Brendan O'Connor, during which O'C asks McG about his meeting with Martin Callinan in car park
#DisclosuresTribunal Transcript reads during discussion of this meeting: BOC said: "And he said, this guy is paedophile we think" and McG replied: "Yes".
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H disputes the description that Call used the word 'paedophile'. McG says he wasn't going to flesh out the details, points out this was word used by BOC to sum up the accusation
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H raises another radio interview with Shane Coleman on Newstalk's Jonathan Healy on May 29 2016. Transcript of i/v show SC asked McG about the car park meeting and if he had a problem with Callinan approaching him and making such comments.
#DisclosuresTribunal In his response McG said no and that he had had discussions with McCabe and others "in relation to all of this and in relation to bringing forward the evidence that he had, so I didn't think that it was unsual"
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H suggests it's unreconcilable that McG uses the phrase "it wasn't unusual" but tells tribunal he was shocked and disturbed. McG said he was shocked that, for the first time, these matters were being relayed to him by the Commissioner.
#DisclosuresTribunal He said one has to be careful on radio and in a tribunal you can be more specific. O'H suggest there's a "more simple explanation" and that is "nothing disturbing had been said" by Callinan.
#DisclosuresTribunal McG responds at length: "When I consider what Martin Callinan said to me, when I consider as a hardened poltiican that I had to pull in off that road and make a note of the points he was making and consider the state I was in driving home..."
#DisclosuresTribunal McG: "...then I think you will understand what I took away from that meeting". He said the comments he alleges Callinan made "deeply disturbed me" and and alongside that there was the workings of the PAC..
#DisclosuresTribunal McG said the comments caused him to wonder if he was wrong about McC [he says Callinan told him he made a "grave error" in having McC before PAC] and it took him that day and two days more to decide McC was honourable man whose family deserved to be defended
#DisclosuresTribunal McG: "Tribunal...gives me opportunity to explain clearly and in truth what happened." Says "you can argue on pinhead of this word and that word in an interview" but insists he's put matters as accurately as he can before the tribunal
#DisclosuresTribunal McG also tells tribunal in context of all the gossip and rumours circulated about McCabe, "I don't know how the man is sitting in this tribunal today"
#DisclosuresTribunal hears again how Callinan and McGuinness are completely at odds over what was discussed in the car park.
#DisclosuresTribunal has resumed after lunch. O'H raises transcript of the PAC meeting Callinan attended on Jan 23 2014. Refers to bit where McG told PAC "the second whistleblower has stated, 'I am willing to give evidence to your committee at the earliest opportunity'.."
#DisclosuresTribunal McG confirms this is referring to former Garda John Wilson. O'H asks why JW wasn't called. McG says because McCabe was source of information which matched the C&AG report on penalty points and PAC at time was dealing solely with McCabe
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H now questioning McG about the comments McG says Callinan made after the PAC of Jan 23, 2014 - the horse comment about John Wilson, the "f***king headbangers" comment about JW and McC and "fiddles with kids" comment about McC
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H says in his speech in Dail in May 2016 about "vile stories" being told to him in a car park by Callinan on Jan 24, 2014 McG didn't mention the alleged comments made outside PAC meeting on Jan 23, 2014. McG agrees he didn't.
#DisclosuresTribunal Call claims after PAC he asked McG if JW would give evidence to PAC and McG said: “You must be joking, sure he’s a fucking header.” O'H says McG only claimed Call made neg comments about JW after Call told tribunal what he [Call!!] claimed McG said about JW
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H parsing exactly what McG said in statements to tribunal. OH: " You appear to be offering different accounts." McG: "And you're wrong."
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H asking McG about contact with Dave Taylor's wife. Yesterday, McG said he can't recall if she contacted him first or vice versa. O'H asks if she was member of FF. McG (bit surprised) says he doesn't know, Adds'I don't know whole lot of membership of party'
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H goes back to evidence of McG and Dave Taylor that Callinan made the "fiddles with kids" comment about McCabe after the PAC meeting of Jan 24, 2014. O'H goes to the protected disclosure of DT and highlights it doesn't make any reference to this comment
#DisclosuresTribunal Tribunal hears that DT made the claim to the tribunal later.
#DisclosuresTribunal (as an aside...bit of Supt Dave Taylor's protected disclosure which was read out included the line from DT that "all hell broke loose internally in An Garda Siochana" over the focus by the media on Callinan's "disgusting" comment made at PAC on Jan 24, 2014)
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H raises how GSOC had to look into a claim that McG obtained information about Traveller children being placed on PULSE from McCabe and this was passed onto a female journalist. This was supposed to have occurred before March 2014
#DisclosuresTribunal O'H says GSOC investigation found gardai shouldn't have created separate records for the children. McG: "I'm aware of that issue and it was described as profiling of children on PULSE. I was asked to comment on that story and I did because I was aware of it."
#DisclosuresTribunal McG adds: "As to the PULSE docs, I'm not aware of that." Charleton says the claim is that it seems the journalist said the source of the info was McG and that McG went to McCabe for screenshots. McG says: "That's not true."
#DisclosuresTribunal McG says: "The journalist in question is a celebrated investigative journalist and I can imagine she had many sources."
#DisclosuresTribunal hears of letter sent by Leo Varadkar to tribunal in which he said he couldn't recall "exact detail of rumours" he'd heard about McCabe when he was Transport Min but he cud recall they "related to his character and motivation" to effect he was "untrustworthy"
#DisclosuresTribunal In his letter, Mr Varadkar also outlined that he could recall "a rumour about a computer with evidence of criminality on it being lost by Sgt McCabe" [This is likely the Fr Molloy computer. See more here: broadsheet.ie/2017/02/13/how…]
#DisclosuresTribunal also hears of letter from ex-Labour leader Pat Rabbitte to the tribunal in which he said in 2014 a friend of his, who's a former garda, raised with him a media interview the friend heard which mention encounters Rabbitte had with McCabe in 2007
#DisclosuresTribunal Rabbitte said the friend didn't know he had prev involvement with McC. R said the friend warned him that there were rumours of alleged child abuse against Sgt McCabe. Rabbitte is scheduled to give evidence to the tribunal next week
#DisclosuresTribunal Darren Lehane BL for McG puts series of qs to McG: Did you fabricate the note? "No" Are you here for purpose of doing down Callinan? "No" Have you provided tribunal with a truthful account? "Yes" Are u part of conspiracy with others to do down Callinan? "No"
#DisclosuresTirbunal sees texts sent by the then Gen Sec of the Dept of Justice Brian Purcell to the then Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan on Jan 23, 2014 (day of PAC meeting) and Jan 24, 2014 (day of meeting btw Callinan and McGuinness)
#DisclosuresTribunal On Jan 23 at 15.02pm, Purcell texted Callinan: "Well done, exceptional performance under fire. Brian."
#DisclosuresTribunal On Jan 24 at 17.44pm, Purcell tweeted Callinan: "Martin, know u are en route to Dundalk, can u call me if possible, just wondering how u got on with JMcG. Brian."
