Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological theory that explains human motivation. In his theory, people will prioritize their lowest level of needs before they can focus on their higher level needs. #basicincome#ubimedium.com/basic-income/u…
A lack of the ability to meet ones basic needs creates a "scarcity mentality". Everyone experiences it at some point, from not enough money, food, or time. This mentality can best explain why poor people make poor decisions. #basicincome#ubi
When someone lacks the resources to cover their basic needs, they become extrinsically motivated to seek work. This often creates a different work attitude than those who are intrinsically motivated to work, because they're working to fulfill different needs. #basicincome#ubi
People who are extrinsically motivated to work to survive become job seekers, while people who are intrinsically motivated to work because they have enough resources to take risks become job creators. Affluent children have an inherited advantage. #ubiprospect.org/article/wealth…
One concern critics have about #basicincome is that people would stop working altogether. This is only true if the #ubi paid enough to live comfortably on the UBI alone. It doesn't. It's enough to provide a floor, not an average standard of living. medium.com/basic-income/i…
A similar concern critics have about #basicincome is that people wouldn't work undesirable/dirty jobs. These employers will either pay more or make machines to do them. I don't think anyone would be sad to have machines do these jobs. #ubifortune.com/2017/01/23/dir…
Another way to frame this is that #basicincome is essentially venture capital for everyone. It gives people the ability to take risks and not fall into poverty if they fail. It takes capital and the ability to take risks to start a business. #UBI would provide both to everyone.
