A great @laura11D advice thread for students in college, but as a prof I want to push back on these two just a wee bit. 1/
First of all, props to whomever has half-hour slots for students, but for most of us that would be impossible. #TooManyStudents
Second of all, professors can sniff out pretty quickly when a student is simply trying to ingratiate themselves with the prof. So have GOOD questions when you come to visit.
In the spirit of friendly advice on this front, I would amend @laura11D’s advice in two ways.
First, if you’re going to office hours just to interact with a prof, do it early in the semester. Office hours are less frequented then, and the prof might not be woefully behind on stuff yet!
Second, go visit when you’re really jazzed about something you read in class and want to know more about the idea/argument. We like academic enthusiasm! #fin

As the chair, I’m going to live-tweet this All-Star panel, featuring Judith Goldstein, Daniel Deudney, Michael Mastanduno, @ProfKMcNamara, and Jonathan Kirshner.
Judy Goldstein points out the way that Gilpin in many ways was the intellectually author of the different paradigmatic perspectives in international relations theory.
Goldstein also points out that much of Gilpin’s work would not get past peer review today because of a lack of methodological sophistication, which suggests that IR theory has lost something because of it.
