Dear black people in America still talking about slavery,

Here's the real problem. You think your slavery was special.

But the enslavement of your ancestors, while atrocious, and utterly and absolutely crimes against humanity, WAS NOT SPECIAL. There are between 21 and 46 million people enslaved worldwide, right now, as you sit arguing on Twitter.

An estimated 800,000 human beings are traded as slaves across international boarders every single year. To put that into perspective, in the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade (1525-1866) about 388,000 human beings were brought from Africa to North America as slaves.

In the Roman Empire over 25% of the population were slaves, and 30 to 40% of the population of Italy was enslaved. As the Roman Republic expanded outward, entire populations from all over Europe and the Mediterranean were enslaved to work in Rome's farms and households.

Under Sparticus, Greeks, Berbers, Germans, Britons, Thracians, Celts, Jews, Arabs, and many more were slaves used not only for labor, but also for amusement as gladiators and sex slaves. If a slave ran away, he was crucified. It's believed some 6000 slaves were crucified.

In the Nordic countries from 6th to 11th century their slaves were mostly from Western Europe, Franks, Anglo-Saxons, Celts, German, Baltic, Slavic and Latin. The Persian traveler Ibn Rustah described how Swedish Vikings terrorized and enslaved the Slavs, (thus the word Slave).

At this very moment an estimated 50,000 people are enslaved in Brazil.

So when @kanyewest drops that 400 years ago perspective on you, and your mind melts and your ego implodes, maybe it's you, not Kanye that's crazy.

By 1865 there were an estimated 4 million blacks in slavery in the US.
Today, EACH AND EVERY YEARS, 1.2 million CHILDREN are SOLD INTO SLAVERY around the world for either sex or labor.

There isn't a race or people on this planet whose ancestors weren't enslaved. Your slavery WAS NOT SPECIAL. Get over yourself. If you weren't so busy arguing about 400 years ago maybe you could hear the cries of the tens of millions of enslaved right now.
