I'm so tired. So heartbroken. More kids. Another school shooter. This is our normal now. We don't have to accept it, though. When I was 17 & reeling after the Columbine shooting, no adults told us that it would be ok, that someone would stop the madness. 1/

We stumbled around, feeling blindly for the edges of our grief. Personally, I thought it was a one-time thing. I thought it was an isolated horror. I thought Littleton must have been a special town, & that we were special in our sadness, terror, & anger. 2/

I was wrong. Littleton, CO is the same as Newtown, CT, Parkland, FL, and Santa Fe, TX. My community was the same as theirs. Our shooters just happened to do it sooner. Even the pictures of survivors & parents crying are the same. Same emotions... different faces. 3/

When will we realize that freedom means that our kids must be free to learn without fear? When will we realize that throwing more cancer at an ill patient won't cure the cancer they already have? Only targeted treatment can do that. More guns won't fix this. 4/

I have no agenda other than sparing communities the shared terrible knowledge that it will never be ok again. Please, please consider that home arsenals will never be enough to stop a tyrannical government, but they are more than enough to end the lives of countless students. 5/

Let's try & remove some of the guns from circulation right now. Our federal government should offer a buyback program immediately, which can reduce the danger of a forgotten or seldom-used gun falling into the hands of an angry kid bent on destruction. 6/

A national gun buyback isn't a law. It's a choice. It's a chance for our country to begin changing our cultural attitude about guns. It's a step to show the kids at Santa Fe High that we won't wait another 19 years - until they're old enough to be president - to change this. 7/

I've waited 19 years for the adults to fix this, to cure our national disease. I am sick of waiting. My primary election is 17 days away. I have no legal powers now. All I have is the ability all of you have: the power to speak out. Try a gun buyback, @realDonaldTrump. 8/

Give our students a reason to believe the world is on their side. Help them understand the moral arc of the universe is long, too long sometimes, but it does bend towards justice. Take action. #
