Malaysia's new Defence Minister, Mohamad "Mat" Sabu, inspecting the guard on his first day in office. @MSabu_Official
Meanwhile, former PM Najib Razak is on the way to the MACC office.
Defence Minister Mat Sabu says he was nervous on his first day, he's used to being with the people not following protocol. But he won't change his "Mat Sabu style".
Defence Minister Mat Sabu says he'll look into scandals including the controversial Scorpene deal overseen by then Defence Minister Najib Razak. But investigations will be done internally first.
New Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says his ministry will review laws such as the Sedition Act in consultation with activists etc, look at border security, defend the sovereignty of Sabah and Sarawak, resolve stateless Indian issues, talk to UNHCR about Rohingya issues.
Asked Muhyiddin Yassin what he plans on doing differently this time around, having been in both the previous BN government and now, the PH government. He says they must deliver for the people and can't take their time in office for granted.
JUST IN: Malaysia's new Finance Minister @guanenglim says shocked to find certain accounts and reports can't be accessed. "It is clear that the previous government has conducted an exercise of deception to the public about certain hot button items, especially #1MDB..."
"Despite these challenges, I am optimistic and confident that he e will be able to overcome these challenges and restore the financial health of the country" - @guanenglim
Finance Minister @guanenglim says "among the most urgent items to be resolved in my first days of office is the payment of interest for #1MDB borrowings".
Date for SST introduction still being worked out but @guanenglim would like for it to be rolled out as soon as possible.
Asked if RM1trillion debt means Malaysia is heading to bankruptcy, the Finance Minister quipped: under the old government, yes.
Finance Minister @guanenglim says the previous government was not forthcoming about actual debt owed by Malaysia. More than RM1trillion is significantly higher than the RM685bil debt announced by former PM Najib's govt as of mid-2017.
One main contributor to Malaysia's debt? #1MDB. channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/mala…
