(2) #Europe must reject notion pushed by #Washington and its allies that being pro-JCPOA means being pro-Iran. Also, #Europe must reject narrative suggesting it puts wedge in transatlantic relations by trying to safeguard JCPOA.

(3) #Iran can be kept in the deal if its economic, political and security dividend makes it conclude it’s better off with the deal. While economic dividend is part of #JCPOA terms, and the other two aren’t, they will play a role in current situation.

(4) #Iran chose 3-step approach through #JCPOA to improve relations with West, #Europe in particular: institutionalization, desecuritization and normalization.

(5) Institutionalization: By processing delicate issue (nuclear file) through institutions: UN, EU, IAEA, UNSC, Joint Commission, #JCPOA as document manifesting agreement. Attempt to prevent unilateralism - this may in the end save the agreement.

(6) Desecuritization: Developing routine, ending taboos by accepting robust inspections, addressing all relevant nuclear-related issues in Joint Commission, and in bilaterals with signatories of agreement.

(7) Normalization: Winning trust, being willing to broaden topics to address issues beyond nuclear file. #Iran said multiple times it would be ready to broaden talks if #JCPOA positive experience. This hope certainly killed with #US violation/withdrawal.

(8) Normalization, in particular, is what #Trump admin, #KSA, #UAE and #Israel have tried to prevent. While understandable it is extremely short-sighted. The alternative is known to all.

(9) #Europe has no ocean between its mainland and #MiddleEast. Regional security directly tied to #Europe|ean security. Therefore, keeping this non-proliferation regime intact is of utmost importance.

(10) #Europe needs to keep/increase leverage in #MiddleEast as regional turmoil affects #Europe directly. Functional ties to regional actors - with #Iran being one of them - are essential for #Europe.

(11) #Europe should not only be seen as actor that initiated and coordinated the nuclear talks and the finalization of the #JCPOA. It should also be the one actor in the lead of safeguarding it.

(12) For this to be achieved, #Europe must get its act together (no longer act like headless chicken), coordinate with #Russia & #China and push #Iran to outline in detail what dividend for it to stay on deal must look like. /END
