Please read this. And then vote like the make up of the federal judiciary depends on it, BECAUSE IT DOES. #TeamLegal | The Latest Big Win in Gavin Grimm’s Case Shows Why Judicial Diversity Matters rewirenews.link/2khY32C
i did a little research on the diversity of the federal judiciary.

Reagan’s appointees were 90% white, of those, 86% were men.

H.W. Bush’s appointees were 90% white and of those, 73% were male.
Terrible, right?
Clinton was the first POTUS whose female appointees exceeded 20%.

28% were white; 15% were Black, 4% Latina, and he appointed 1 Asian American judge.

Not great but not bad.
82% of GW Bush’s appointees were white. 10% were Latino. (EE appointed more Latinx ppl to the bench then his predecessors.)

22% of Bush’s appointees were women: ~15% were white; 2.5% were Black, ~4% were Latina, and he appointed 1 Asian American judge.

Again, not great.
And then calmed Obama.

I don’t have data for his full 8 years.

But he appointed the most women and people of color than all of his predecessors.

In his first 5 years, he appointed more women than Reagan and both Bushes, combined.
Also, in his first 5 years, the number of women of color Obama appointed to the federal bunch exceeded the total of any of his predecessors, including Clinton.
Here are my sources:

1. scholarship.law.berkeley.edu/cgi/viewconten…

2. nbcnews.com/storyline/pres…

I'm sure if I looked harder I could find full data, but the point is: DIVERSITY MATTERS.
Studies of the federal appellate court judges have shown that women and PoC tend to vote more liberally than their white male counterparts.

Women/POC bring a different perspective.

We need that as these civil rights cases wind their way through the courts. #TeamLegal
Please pretend that “and then calmed Obama” says “and then came Obama.”

Also he appointed people to the federal bench, not the federal bunch.

🙏🏾
At the risk of tossing a grenade in my mentions, I hope people read this and take the bit about left infighting to heart.

We have got to get it together for November. People’s civil rights are on the line.
We have got to stop the rapid fire confirmation of right wing extremist judges who, for example, think Brown v. Board of Ed was wrongly decided, or that LGBTQ people shouldn’t be allowed to adopt, or that public accommodations can refuse you service because you’re trans.
I’m literally begging you. It’s that bad. Please get it together. We have to. rewire.news/ablc/2018/05/2… #TeamLegal

I know people don’t find value in voting—especially given the two party system and rampant injustice in this country—but honest to god, the lurching rightward of the courts has concerned me for years.

And now it’s happening. And it really makes me feel sick.
And voting is the only way to stop it. It just is.

Part of the reason @Hegemommy and I started this #TeamLegal business is to explain how the law impacts people.

I think a lot of people are put off by all the jargon and so they don’t pay much attention to the courts.
I’m begging everyone to pay more attention to the courts. Not just the Supreme Court. But lower courts, too.

One of these days, I'm going to go off about diversity and affirmative action and how it's all bullshit because this white supremacist country can't admit that perhaps 400 years of slavery had an affect on achievement gaps between Black folks and everybody else.
In my view, this diversity shit is nonsense. I am for quotas. Fuck it. This country owes Black people. The government wont give Black folks reparations and after like 30 years of affirmative action, the government is like, "y'all are good."
400 YEARS OF SLAVERY.

White folks purposefully refused to educate Black folks because they didn't want us getting smart and fucking up white people's program.

But yeah, genetics is why some Black kids underperform in school.

GTFO.

And I want to point out that I am not one to hold a grudge when it comes to defeating trump. I would happily accept an apology from Amy and then we can move forward.

But how can you be trusted if you won’t be honest about who you were and how you became the person you are now?
How can you be trusted when you position yourself as the leader of the resistance and two black women with valid questions about your past as Russian disinfo agents?

It’s really messed up. And I find it very disheartening.

Are you seriously doing this Amy?

You could‘ve explained your crap tweets but instead you try to turn the tables on me.

You could have messaged me and said, my politics have changed. My tweet about BLM was inappropriate.

But no. You screeched at me.
As I said, your tweets speak for themselves, @Amy_Siskind.

And rather than explain why you spent 8 years trashing obama, wanted Palin to primary him, disavowed BLM because you you don’t like solidarity with Palestinians.

Instead you’re straight up lying.
Weak.

But this is your resistance hero, ladies and gentlemen.

Enjoy her.

people gotta stop conflating white working class voters with working class voters.
If you mean white working class voters, then say so.

Working class voters haven’t abandoned democrats. White working class voters did.

And to be fair—and brutally unironic—not all white working class voters did.

So at this point, you’re just chasing trump voters.

Why tho
This is the problem with Boatshoe socialism.

I truly don’t need rich white people explaining identity politics to me.

The end.
The notion that some rich white girl from Brooklyn is gonna lecture me about identity politics is alternatively hilarious and infuriating.

Have a seat, ma’am.
I’m more disturbed by the ease with which people are smearing Sharice Davids as a corporate lawyer when she worked at an Econ development Corp on her reservation.

Or claiming that she’s taking dark money… from *checks notes* Emily’s List.

Y’all are lying on this woman.
