Hi Everyone, meet Bruffles. He's the first NPC character being developed for @linethegame. How did we arrive at this design & how will we get him in-game? Well, gather 'round & watch this thread as I detail the whole process. (Bruffles concept by the amazing @FromHappyRock)
For development, Bruffles is being used as a target for look development & animation/character exploration. At his core he teaches the player how to hill-slide, since that's his favorite way of moving through the world. He also allows us to explore how diverse our designs can be.
The design for what would eventually become Bruffles started with a sketch(attached) from my good friend Scott Flanders: artstation.com/scottflanders. He was helping out by doing lots of character lineup exploration for Line over a year ago.

Messing around with Photoshop's video editing options. Just ripped this gif of Jamm's win pose from Golden Axe: The Duel! This game had REALLY GOOD ART!

Source video here:

Cham Cham--I mean Jamm was born into a war torn land. She was abandoned by her parents during an enemy invasion, but was taken in by a wild spirit named Degas that raised her among the animals.

Here's a rad Moebius influenced illustration of Jamm!

After Degas passed away, Jamm continued to wear his pelt and claws. During her super, she casts off his skin and his spirit returns and fires a beam of destructive energy at her opponent.

Some more beetle studies. If you are a character designer and particularly if you like to make creatures, armor or machines, you should definitely get to know and love bugs!

Great tools on character relationships in this episode of @WritingExcuses.
From @howardtayler: 2 examples of power in character relationships are Personal Power and Position Power. Personal Pwr comes from charisma and social worth within the group. Position Power comes from the hierarchical structure of the organization. #writing #scifi
Inteteresting conflict arises when a character believes their Personal Pwr grants them Positional Pwr (the popular guy who acts like the boss). Or when a character believes their Positional Pwr grants them Personal Pwr (the boss that thinks she's everyone's friend) #writingadvice
