#ThisDayInHistory
The Famous #DakshineshwarMandir which houses Maa Bhabatarini was founded by #RaniRashmoni. It is said that when she was about to start for a pilgrimage to Benaras, the divine #MaaKali intervened & asked her to build a Mandir on the banks of #Ganga. +
#RaniRashmoni bought 58 bigha of land in 1847. 8 yrs later on 1855 the Mandir was completed. the land resembled a hump of a tortoise, 1 part belonged to a European & the other part was Muslim kabaristan, perfect place for Tantra Sadhana.
#RaniRashmoni built a Navaratna mandir, 12 Shiv Mandirs with JyotirLingams, a Vishnu Mandir and a Nattmandir on the land. a LakshmiNarayan Shila was placed in the Navaratna Mandir as per her late husband’s (Babu Raj Chandra Das) wish.
a KuthiBari was also built where #RaniRashmoni used to stay with her daughter & Son in Law Mathura Babu & later Ramkrishna Paramhansa resided. Sarada Maa used to stay in Nahabat Khana.
31st May 1855 (18 Jaistha 1262 Bengali Sambat (BS) or Bongabdo),was chosen because it was also Jagannath Deva Snana-Yatra Diwas. Many Intellectuals of shastras (scriptures), Brahmin pundits, and celebrated scholars arrived from distant places like Kashi, Orissa, and Navadvip.
However, because of her low caste (kaivarta) #RaniRashmoni dedicated the mandir to RamKumar Chattyopadhyay, who was her spiritual Guru. He was made the Pradhan Purohit of #DakshineshwarMandir. Pran Pratistha was decided to be on 31st May.
Pran Pratistha of all Dev Devi Murtis was performed with much grandeur. however within a yr Ramkumar passed away leaving the entire responsibility of the Mandir to his younger brother, Gadadhar Chattyopadhyay.
#DakshineshwarMandir
Gadadhar Chattyopadhyay or Ramkrishna Paramhansa in the next 30 years became the seeker & devotee of Maa Kali & imbedded the seed of change in the socio-religious condition of Bengal & earned immense reputation for the #DakshineswarMandir
#RaniRashmoni seriously fell ill in 1861, so she decided to handover the property as a legacy for the maintenance of the temple to the temple trust. She accomplished her task on 18th February, 1861 and passed away on the next day.
on 10 May 2015, PM @narendramodi visited #DakshineshwarMandir. he was the 1st PM of India who visited the mandir. Modi signed on the visitors' book in Gujarati, writing 'Obeisance to the goddess, obeisance to the swamy'.
