Running is such an integral part of me: it’s my passion, it’s empowering & a Huge part of my self care these days
The fact that it’s being politicized loses the lesson: it’s NOT who murdered her, it’s the WHY.

Although men empathize, they’ll never know the ways women/victims must think to protect themselves:
🔹Empty parking lots & elevators after hours
🔹At some places of employment, we need after hour escorts to our cars or the bus
🔹It’s a big reason why we use restrooms in packs

Some safety tips I’ve had to adopt to go on a simple run:
🔹I Never run in the same place from one week to the next, or the same time of day– I mix it up
🔹I Never wear my long hair in a ponytail - too easy to grab
🔹My dog comes with me on all runs– so dogs must be allowed

🔹Statistically, most rapes happen early morning before 8 a.m. I won’t run before then & definitely not after dark
🔹I don’t run with headphones anymore if I’m alone – we must always be aware of our surroundings
🔹I don’t make eye contact or acknowledge others on a run

Wardrobe– I wear big, baggy T-shirts or sweatshirts & cover up when I run, even in summer.
What women wear is always scrutinized: even when it’s for health. It’s a billion dollar industry.

When I tell the men in my life about the safety measures we must take to perform simple tasks, they’re shocked. It doesn’t affect men the way it does for women.
It prevents us from participating in life.
It’s why days are called #WomensEqualityDay

Mollie Tibbett’s murder is NOT an immigration issue
IT IS A VIOLENCE against women issue
The GOP is using the actions of one to define an entire group of people
If her killer had been some white guy, it wouldn’t be an exploited Russian talking point

Just like they did with Seth Rich, the @GOP is politicizing a tragedy for their political agenda – even going against the family’s wishes who want to grieve.
They don’t care about Mollie Tibbett’s death. Their endgame is to spread
–propaganda
–xenophobia
–discrimination
–fear
Mollie’s death is NOT a reason to demonize immigrants, legal or not.
It IS a reason to address the Epidemic of violence against women for saying NO to unwanted attention
It’s a reason to thank the men who’ve stood up for women & immigrants– who see this for what it really is
