"Make sure you harvest the remaining yam in the farm before you go" his mother said & he told her he was heading to the farm 'right away'

"Ok my son...

Lotanna grabbed his cuttlass, dusted a basket lying around in their yam barn & headed to the farm.

But;

Something happened..

On his way to the farm he passed by a bush path, he thought to take a "quick one" in the bush so he dropped his basket & cuttlass by the roadside & made way to find a nice spot

Suddenly (somebody say suddenly)

He saw Obinna the Igwe's 2nd son trying to rape a maiden!

Osanobua!

He didn't know what to do so he thought his best move would be to put his 'shit' on hold & abscond, as he made moves in the forest it called the attention of Obinna & his men servants towards the direction lotanna was

"Get him!"Obinna yelled;

His servants chased after Lotanna!

Luckily for Obinna he escaped - Obinna's bodyguards weren't fast enough, they only saw a part of his tattoo

"He must be from Umunze" one of the guards said as he turned to Obinna, Obinna was already in the business of raping the maiden so he looked away

"Abomination" he thought

Lotanna kept running for his dear life, he looked back & realized he was no longer being chased so he slowed down his pace to catch his breath

"Obinna the Igwe's son is committing an abomination" he thought out loud while still slowly gasping for breath - "I must not say a word"

Lotanna focused on his farm work & in no distant time he was through, he put together his tools & farm produce!

When he walked the pathway through the farm he saw other villagers hurrying to get ready for the 'Offala' - he increased his pace

"I must not be late for this Ofalla"

The Ofalla (a ceremony which shows the rich igbo culture often organised by the Igwe) was looking colourful, maidens usually saw it as an avenue to meet young men - so they often came looking as beautiful as possible

Lotanna got there late so he observed from behind a huge crowd

Suddenly

He looked through the shoulders of one of the boys in front of him & saw a little boy displaying great dance moves, he tried to look closely so he accidentally places his hands on someone's shoulder;

"Why are your hands on my shoulders?" This tiny voice Suddenly asked!

"Oh I'm so sorry!" Lotanna immediately apologised as he looked at this beautiful maiden who had turned to look at him, "I didn't know you were a girl" he said;

"A pretty girl at that" he added, the girl just smiled & turned to face the centre of action at the Igwe's palace...

"Are you from this village?" Lotanna asked after he could no longer place his focus on the supposed 'exciting event' - "are you talking to me?" She replied.

"Yes! I'm Lotanna & I'm from this village" he swiftly followed up, "Oh! Me, I'm Ego & I'm from this village too" she said.

"What is this akuna doing here? What is this prostitute doing in our Obi?" Lotanna suddenly heard from the corner of the compound which was closer to the Igwe's Obi'

He turned around to see what was going on & to his greatest surprise it was Obinna standing with Tobe his brother

"Just this morning I and my guards caught her with another man!" Obinna said pointing to a girl who was knee down weeping & begging, "The gods can bear me witness I didn't do this!" The maiden wailed

Obinna looked closer at the maiden;

It was the same girl Obinna tried to rape!

"Is this true?" Tobe asked;

Tobe is the Igwe's 1st son & heir to the throne, Obinna didn't want Tobe to get married at all because it would hasten his steps to become the next Igwe; & also because 'Ada' was the daughter of the 'Onowu'- Obinna's enemy..

"It's not true" Ada cried

"So you mean im lying ehn?!" Obinna yelled & immediately some guards came to the scene, they chased away onlookers & at that moment Lotanna & Ego realized they weren't the only lovers of Nollywood present at the 'Ofalla'

"Would you like to leave here?" Lotanna asked ego;

"Sure"

Lotanna & Ego left the scene but Tobe didn't - he was indirectly cajoled by Obinna to make an instant judgement on Ada;

"Wouldn't you let me explain?" Ada plead;

Obinna ordered the guards to take her away & Tobe was left with no choice than to allow her go, he trusted Obinna..

Ada was thrown out of the Igwe's palace & onlookers mocked her, she wept home & became the laughing stock of the village hence

Lotanna & Ego sparked up a connection almost immediately; the type that was strong enough for them to forget about the Ofalla & the incident with Obinna

Their love grew strong within market days that it got to a point they couldn't eat without each other, the entire village knew them as lovers & the village youths often sited them as perfect examples as couples.

One day Lotanna & Ego went to fetch water from the stream..

They carried one big pot each & walked side by side to the stream, as they approached the river bank through the slippery pathway they saw a lady struggling with her water pot;

"Let's help her" Lotanna said, "Yes let's help" Ego concurred;

"Let me help" Tobe said

And

Suddenly

"Thank you" this lady said in acceptance of the offer, as she turned to look them they found themselves in a very awkward position.

They found out that the lady on distress was Ada!

That was not even the issue;

She was pregnant!

"Oh chimo!" Lotanna exclaimed as he assists her

He & Ego helped her place the water on her & she was full with thanks, "you're welcome, regards to your husband" Ego responded as Ada to walk away;

"I will" Ada responded & finally found her way to the drier pathway, Lotanna & Ego looked at each other - smiled & forged ahead..

They finished fetching water & went back to their houses, whe Lotanna got home he realised there was nobody home

He poured his water into a storage pot, tidied up the house & went to have his bath. When he came out of the bathroom which was at the back of their house he saw Ego!

"You scared me" Lotanna said as he switched to a charming smile, "I was knocking but got no response so I came to the back" Ego replied

"I'm home alone"

"You're home alone?"

"Yes"

"Perfect! Let's go in"

"Why are you excited?"

"Today is the day you make me feel like a woman"

Lotanna & Ego had never had a private time since the day they met, they were always in company of each other's family & friends

They would see each other during the day & part ways before sunset, today was the first time they were alone;

In Lotanna's house

"Feel like a woman?"

That was the first time Lotanna & Ego Mekwed, it was not so smooth at first - ego was more experienced but Lotanna was a very fast learner

They were still laying in each other's arms when Lotanna heard his mom call;

"Come & bring in the goats before it's night-fall!" She yelled

They went inside & to Lotanna's corner, sat down on his sleeping mat which was already laced with soft clothes;

"How do I make you feel like a woman?"

"You be never done this before?"

Lotanna was about to ask what she was talking about buy she already started touching him...

"Wow my mother is here!" Lotanna exclaimed as he shockingly stood up, "chimo! It's almost sunset" Ego reacted as they hurriedly dressed up & exited the house through the back!

Fast forward..

The next day Lotanna went farming, on his way back from farm he saw a lady from behind who struggled with her basket of foods crops;

As he moved closer to the lady & was shocked by what he saw;

It was Ada again!

"Why are you going through all this with your pregnancy?"

She started to weep & Lotanna became confused, he asked her why she was crying - "don't worry I'll be fine" Ada immediately responded when she noticed other villages pass by;

Lotanna noticed all these & asked her to tell him what the problem was;

"I am innocent!" She cried

"I know you're innocent" Lotanna replied, "You do? How?" Ada shocking replied - Lotanna told her he'd tell her everything he knew when they got to her house;

He grabbed her basket & helped her carry her basket home!

As he walked by with Ada people pointed & laughed at them!

Lotanna is aware of the consequences of being seen with Ada!

He knew he could also not tell Ada that he saw what Obinna did to her!

Ego cannot find out he helped Ada carry her farm produces home!
