This theory can be tested across fundamentalism.
I'm about to share some supporting evidence, not because I want anyone to *out* Doug Phillips, but because I want people who used to follow #VisionForum theology to be set free.
I have some interesting links in my own thread:
Doug Phillips was the leader of Vision Forum Ministries, a hyper-fundamentalist sect that promoted extreme versions of gender roles, homeschooling, and other things I don't have time to get in to. Here's a brief history: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vision_Fo…
Vision Forum went belly-up after Phillips was found to be sexually assaulting a nanny. :(
I was not personally involved w/ VF, but was close to several people that were. Their presence was STRONGLY felt in my GCM church, where we had a homeschool co-op.
So....what's Doug Phillips up to these days?
He's doing retro film making and photography.
I wish I was kidding.
H/T @freejinger for all the following links:
Eh, that link doesn't look very good in a tweet, so let's do screenshots instead:
Phillips just looks so MANLY.....
He's actually a decent filmmaker, and a really good photographer--I've gotta give the guy credit.
Too bad he built his skills on the backs of impoverished homeschool families. :(
Here's an adorable clip: vimeo.com/233036699
Everyone deserves to make a living, so my goal in posting this information is NOT to have everyone spam him & threaten to shut him down.
I want you to be set free from burdens that fundamentalists are unable to bear themselves.
Doug Phillips was not promoting godliness, modesty, or holiness--he was promoting his own sexual fetish: retro styling, a sunny disposition, a focus on purity, etc., and he was doing it at the expense of the people who followed him.
#SpiritualAbuseIs calling your fetish Godly.
