(1) #DidYouKnow that the UK's so-called freedom fighter "Tommy Robinson" is actually Stephen Lennon, Stephen Yaxley, or Paul Harris & once claimed to be Andrew McMaster?

He has an assault, drugs & fraud rap sheet as long as your arm, too.

Time for some facts about him.
(2) The above quote is from this piece. I'm still researching his background online but even from the first few articles I've found it's clear he's a common criminal who carefully massages a public image that is swallowed hook, line & sinker by his fans.

bbc.com/news/uk-englan…
(3) I don't normally rely on leftist sources like the BBC and The Guardian but the basic facts reported, such as criminal convictions can't be spun. I think "TR" relies on his fans' suspicion of "establishment" media to dissuade them from objectively fact-finding about him.
(4) I've long given up on any so-called right wing activists/pundits who are openly bigoted against all Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Catholics, gay people or women. TR is an anti-Islamic bigot. I separate humans into two groups: criminals and others. Happy to attack criminals.
(5) I do NOT lump all Muslims in together with the tiny minority of them who have committed violence. IMO Islam has been co-opted by the National Socialists that survived WWII & regrouped far from Europe, to threaten us ever since. Jihadism & Communism are bedfellows, essentially
(6) More than a year ago I did hold strong views about Islamic Extremism but I had no idea about the true nature of the ideology behind it. It's a political movement that cynically co-opted a religion for political reasons. I do not fear the Muslims who live near me in rural NZ.
(7) So, back to TR. He's just been jailed (again) for 13 months this time. His supporters falsely claim the "real" reason is part of the British state's "vendetta" against him for speaking the "truth" about the "Islamification" of Europe.

independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…
(8) Now I'm the first to agree with you that Europe is in a bad way, with thousands on terror watch lists and regular #KnownWolf attacks. That doesn't mean Islam is talking over the continent and we must "Ban Sharia" or something.

It means citizens must support the rule of law.
(9) The right to a fair trial is sacrosanct, in the UK, the US and any other country that at some time had elected representatives who wanted this natural right to be affirmed in law.

If you don't like a law, work to elect people who will change it.
(10) Are you getting the impression this guy has zero respect for the rule of law?

theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/j…
(11) Why do I care? Because this fundamental issue doesn't just affect the UK. The unpleasant saga of TR is a teachable moment for those of us on the political right wing.

Jerks like him are always going to be around. The Left is always going to misrepresent them as like us...
(12) He is nothing like us. Something that dawned on me after Charlottesville in August 2017: The political spectrum is a bell curve, with violent extremists at BOTH ends. The majority are non-violent & I want to strengthen that & not get drawn into the extremists' games.
(13) This is why I'm careful to specify that I view only a minority of liberals/leftists as suffering from #TDS & condoning violence & death threats against us. The majority of liberals may be mistaken, gullible & willing to vote for crooks, but they don't actually assault us.
(14) I'd rather be associated with the 95% of people who are politically non-violent than with right wing extremists like "Tommy Robinson."

Who knows if he's even right wing? These types have an uncanny way of turning out to be Commies underneath, like Hitler himself.
(15) TR supporters love to attack Mark Rowley, the outgoing Assistant Commissioner of the Met Police, but in this article he's remarkably even handed about online radicalization of Muslim AND anti-Muslim terrorists in the UK. I'm not condoning stuff...

independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…
(16) I'm not condoning all the times British authorities have failed to protect innocents, whether it's by not dealing with child sex offender gangs, or the many Islamist attackers that have killed over the years. But I won't give anti-Muslim extremists a pass, either.

(1) Live tweeting the swearing in of Justice Kavanaugh, October 6, 2018.

The White House and then the Supreme Court will host the two ceremonies necessary for the Justice to take his seat on Monday.

#ThankYouSenators #GodBlessAmerica #Originalism 🇺🇸👨‍⚖️
(2) Brett M. Kavanaugh will soon be the 102nd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA. He has earned this highest honor throughout his life, inspired by his trailblazing mother, Judge Martha Kavanaugh.

His title for these few hours is Associate Justice Designate.
(3) This statement from the Supreme Court explains the two ceremonies:

A directory of my 10 Kavanaugh threads, and counting. (I know, I surprise myself sometimes.)

#JudgeKavanaugh will soon be #JusticeKavanaugh and the American Republic will be preserved. 🦅
(2) This WaPo reporter is incorrect about the vote being "scheduled for" Saturday. The earliest time a vote COULD be held is Saturday pm. There's no reason not to hold it on Sun/Mon IF we need Daines. I think we won't. Read my 5 tweets about him here:
(3) An excellent short explainer about the fact that Mitch has the votes:

(1) A directory of my Kavanaugh threads since July 9, 2018.

I never planned more than a couple of threads about him this year but, I shoulda known the Dems would try to destroy whoever was the nominee this time.

Well, he fought back. #AmericanOfTheYear #JusticeKavanaugh 🇺🇸
(2) Like Democrats, I'd already decided how I felt about him before his nomination was announced. I live-tweeted the announcement, which was a great event in itself.

(3) I followed Kavanaugh's progress over the summer and on September 22nd, I finally wrote a thread about the preparations for the all-important hearing on September 27th. It covers the hearing before the next thread started the day after.

(2) Mitch laughing to himself about how absurd it is that he has to push his way through the crowd of reporters on 9/25/18.
(3) Sen Grassley is 85 years old. (Democrats have senators around that age, too.)

Today he had to hold onto a Capitol Police officer to reduce the risk of a reporter knocking him over. This has to stop. Senators must return to being able to walk around freely at work.

She's one of those women whose face lights up whenever she is around children. God Bless our great First Lady.

(1) Live tweeting the Senate tonight. @SenateMajLdr has to file cloture by a deadline tonight in order to hold the #ConfirmKavanaugh vote Saturday.

Watch the livestream and videos here:

(2) Cloture in the Senate is a procedural step that you can learn more about at the link below. The senate.gov website is the best resource for learning about Senate procedure and a lot more. Same for house.gov.

(3) Watching live Senate floor proceedings is boring as hell, as they pass bills for naming Post Offices, & so on. But every now & then, they confirm a SCOTUS judge. And this time, they will affirm our great #BillOfRights #DueProcess & the hard-won #RuleOfLaw. Seriously. 🇺🇸🦅
