How can you help? See below for script and more...1/
✏️Script: Dear [name], During a Senate oversight hearing, Steven Wagner stated that the whereabouts of 1,475 immigrant children are unknown. 2/

✏️Script (cont): Our nation has a moral responsibility to protect children and treat them with basic decency, regardless of immigration status. 3/

✏️ Script (cont): This means we must vet caretakers thoroughly to prevent exposing kids to work- and sex traffickers. 4/
✏️ Script (cont): We must stop the inhumane practice of separating children from parents as an immigration deterrent. 5/
✏️ Script (cont): We must hold detention facilities accountable for child abuse. 6/
✏️ Script (cont): We must track kids post-release to ensure their well-being—especially those currently missing. As a taxpayer funding this egregious neglect of duty, I urge you to take full and immediate responsibility .... 7/
✏️ Script (cont): for the well-being and safety of vulnerable children and infants. Sincerely, [name, state]

A quote from @BarackObama to help us #persist amid tragedies like this: " “It's easier to be cynical; to accept that change isn't possible, and politics is hopeless, and to believe that our voices and actions don't matter. But if we give up now, then we forsake a better future.”

#Connecticut will be deciding who they are going to put in the Governor's Office in a few weeks!

Let's look at what @NedLamont has to say.

1) Reducing Property Taxes for the Middle Class:

"From Middlebury to Middletown and Norwalk to Norwich, people in [CT]... (cont)

...feel squeezed. Our state has become one of the most expensive places to raise a family or start a business. And in the face of stagnant wages and weak job growth, Hartford politicians have hit middle class families with tax increase after tax increase. Even worse... (cont)

...there’s barely anything to show for it: after three decades of mismanagement by governors of both parties, our budget hole remains deep and Connecticut’s working families are being asked to pick up more of the tab. It’s unfair, it’s unproductive, and it needs... (cont)

So let's think about this. 🤔
We live in a country where 1 out of every 4 or 5 women are sexually abused.
We have a president who thinks women are property and he can grab them whenever he wants.
People elected him knowing this.
But let's be clear, men are also abused.
Statistics tell us that many abusers were victims.
It is a perpetuating cycle that will not stop until we decide to stop it.

Do you want your son or daughter to be abused?

If not end this now.

Decide you will not allow this cycle of abuse to continue.

Do not put someone who will lie in the Supreme Court.

We have a liar in the White House and look at what is happening to our country.

17 years ago today, l was on the phone with a friend and the line went dead. She worked in the WTC and fortunately she and her husband made it out. But other friends did not and so many people lost a spouse, partner, parent, & /or child in NY, DC and PA that day!

There were also many "life lessons" we had the opportunity to gleen in the years to come.

For example we learned that conspiracy theories can be appealing and thus we had to learn how to detect a conspiracy theory from truth.

From @michaelshermer:

We also learned that there are people who pretended to be victims of 9/11 to take advantage of the benefits offered to the true victims. To many of us it was inconcievable.

@kathycaprino wrote an article on how to tell when people are lying:

As we enjoy one of our last #SummerSudays, it is a good time to talk about the importance of #Gratitude.

@inspiredjen sent out "A word on gratitude" with the @AoCChecklist this week:

"As you may already know, one of the guiding principles of the AoC Checklist...(cont)

"...is to practice gratitude. There's solid research that connects the act of expressing thanks with increased feelings of well-being and connection with others. I regularly suggest thanking people--from grassroots leaders to elected officials...(cont)"

"...on both sides of the proverbial aisle--for doing courageous things.

Gratitude makes you feel more hopeful. It lets people know their efforts are seen and matter. And it also reminds us that there's more to democracy than "my side winning". In reality, democracy...(cont)"

More actions from @inspiredjen and the @AoCChecklist:

Democracy thrives when all citizens can freely elect those who represent their values.

From the @BrennanCenter here is an Election Security Advance Planning Checklist:

🌊Action 1: If you do only 1 thing besides vote, please do this 5-min task.

Speaking up can make a huge difference in the fairness and success of your district’s elections.

📱Call: Or write your local election official ...

📜Script: Hi. I’m from [town], calling to ask a few questions about how our district is preparing for the upcoming elections.

1. Does our district keep an offline daily backup of votes as they come in?...
