I’ll never forget the day i and my team where up all night, not only posting all over social media but making calls to find blood donors for a patient who needed urgent transfusion.
“Kilishi, oya oya, we just got a call. One woman in Specialist hospital needs blood o, she was brought in pale. She has No money. No blood match in the blood bank. No one to assist.
(Erm, my mentor calls me Kilishi, Kilishi for Kelechi, lol) #BloodOnTheLine
Sleep had cleared from my eyes sef as we drove the hospital. we were already posting on onlin. calls... looking for a match upandan. We got to the hospital and the sight of the patient was so heart wrenching. She was frail and white as paper #BloodOnTheLine
It was about 12:30am. We didn't know how but we knew help will come. So we started the procedure. Gave a go ahead to the hospital to take samples for grouping and cross matching while we waited #BloodOnTheLine
I would have loved to donate but i am in Sokoto”.
“OMG, i am a match but i am sick right now i can’t donate.”
“I am a match, how much will you pay.”
We got lots of responses like this until we got 3 positive ones.
My madam drove to one location to pick one of them. I took a bike to go and pick another person(opposite direction). One of them said he could find his way to us! Thank God
Screenings tests were conducted on all three. Good-news, 2 were clean but unfortunately, the last person was not cleared to donate. He two blood infections that disqualified him.
Do you know that regular blood donation encourages regular health screening? For every time you give blood, you are screen for HIV,Hepatitis B & C, syphilis, Malaria, etc
Talk about killing 2 birds with one stone. Be a regular blood donor!
Most of the time, we lose lives due to non availability of blood in the Blood Banks. This is why we should donate blood regularly so we don’t run out of supply!
Who know who might need it tomorrow? Who knows? Maybe you🤕 #BloodOnTheLine
“God forbid, it is not my portion” until you or someone close to you us in urgent need for blood and the only match is 6hours away”
It happened in Lagos sometime in 2016, i didn’t even have a boyfriend o, no ulterior motive o, i was just doing my usual advocacy and being a good friend.
Earlier that day, i had attended a family planning training where we were taught several methods of contraception. Part of the training was "the effective use of Condoms as a barrier method of contraception @Devcoms @getittogetherng @healthcommng #FPFriday
They tell us to marry someone we love. If the said partner has been verified to be a faithful believer and a true love, Is it still a valid reason for 2 people who are not genotype compatible go ahead and get married?
In as much as we know that considering our future partners’ religious beliefs and morals are important factor, the health aspect cannot be neglected. Some choices you make can mar your relationships no matter how strong it is.
