The plethora of crimes committed during the military dictatorship of Augusto #Pinochet in Chile between 1973 and 1990 were exactly the type of abuse of power that Julian Assange would uniquely expose through #WikiLeaks
Both Assange and Pinochet have battled against extradition from the #UK, with vastly different outcomes and contrasting positions taken by the UK govt. The UK supported Pinochet, a human-rights abuser, and persecuted #Assange, a journalist who has exposed crimes of the powerful.
Adding to this, the UK paid for the same barrister [Clare Montgomery] to defend Pinochet from extradition, and to later argue for Swedish authorities during their attempts to extradite Assange.

Clare Montgomery is not the only figure involved in Pinochet’s fight against extradition to re-emerge in a contrasting role in Julian Assange’s legal case.
Baltasar Garzón, the Spanish judge who had sought to extradite Pinochet from the UK to Spain, now defends the Wikileaks Editor-In-Chief as the head of his legal team.
Garzón is expected to speak at an upcoming meeting of the UNHRC focused on the persecution of the WikiLeaks Editor-In-Chief.

Again: While the UK used tax funds to overtly and covertly persecute a journalist, the UK also used public resources to safeguard a despot from extradition to face charges of abuse including genocide, rape, torture and murder.
So not only do Assange and the citizens of Chile suffer from this tangible hypocrisy, but so do the citizens of the UK whose public funds are wasted in such a damaging manner.
Montgomery’s defense of Pinochet included arguments that: "Although torture was contrary to international law it was not strictly an international crime in the highest sense.”

She characterized torture as an act of state. An extension of sovereignty.

Montgomery’s arguments on behalf of Pinochet go to the heart of the issues that Wikileaks would eventually expose: human rights abuses by the powerful and by states against the public and the powerless.
Montgomery’s legitimization of Pinochet’s abuses as an extension of sovereignty, combined with her later efforts to prosecute Assange, is symbolic in a broader sense of the system of power protecting itself.
Even more damning than the involvement of Clare Montgomery in these cases:

Pinochet was given clemency for health reasons.

Meanwhile, Assange's health continues to deteriorate without reprieve, despite UN rulings in his favor.

The relationship that would develop between #Pinochet and prominent figures from the UK and the US, including Margaret Thatcher and Henry #Kissinger, may have also set political precedent for the UK’s defense of Pinochet from extradition.
The relationships made sense in terms of 'realpolitik.'

Pinochet was rabidly anti-communist during the Cold War.
He reopened Chile to US business interests.

He was economically and geopolitically convenient, & a blood-soaked despot who overthrew a democratically elected govt.
.@thenation recounted the contents of a declassified memo that revealed the friendship between Kissinger and Pinochet:

The Nation goes on to quote Kissinger’s reassurance of US tolerance of Pinochet’s government:

“We welcomed the overthrow of the Communist-inclined government here. We are not out to weaken your position.”

Assange has suffered the double blow of being abused & vilified. The corrupt power structure has to deflect from reality of their abuse by making him the "bad guy" in the eyes of the public. That narrative has to die if we are ever going to see justice for JA and for ourselves.
Some scholars have credited Pinochet with introducing the term “disappeared” to the lexicon of modern politics.

HumanRightsHistory defines the term “enforced disappearance” in the following terms:

Hopefully a more readable version of the definition of "Enforced Disappearance," as outlined here:

archive.is/RrQEU#selectio…
It is a haunting, almost poetic realization that the UK & US have enacted a slow-motion version of an ‘enforced disappearance’ of Julian Assange.
The treatment of the West’s most prominent political prisoner echoes the horrors of Pinochet’s government, the same regime who birthed the phrase “enforced disappearance” into the political lexicon, and whose brutal leader was eventually defended by the UK.

"How can we view the ongoing silence from within the confines of the Ecuadorian embassy as anything other than a political, enforced disappearance in the middle of a so-called free, liberal society?"

Although #Assange is isolated by the Ecuadorian government, it is overwhelmingly clear that as per the definition, #Ecuador is "acquiescing" to the desire of the US & UK governments.

To the tune of $500 million.

Evolution of the #RussianCollusion Narrative ─ Part Three

Latest from Richard Levine, and a fascinating read.

disobedientmedia.com/2018/10/evolut…
Levine:

"Thus, a primary foundation for what became the #Russiancollusion narrative did not involve Russia, but arose due to Britain’s visions for itself."

#Londongate
Sidenote: Levine also cites the connection between British Intelligence, the CIA and the infamous Collin Powell WMD speech at the UN.

In #DecipherYou, @Suzi3D and myself noted SIDToday files wherein the NSA brags about influencing this same speech among others.

The Critical Difference Between Tim Canova And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

disobedientmedia.com/2018/09/the-cr…
This article is intended to highlight - through contrast with Cortez - why it is so critically important that the entire US - not only Floridians - throw the full weight of their support behind Canova's campaign in these last few weeks leading up to the November election.
"Canova’s campaign accepts no corporate funds whatsoever despite the fact that it faces one of the most overtly corrupt and powerful political figures in the country." Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is the former DNC Chairwoman at the heart of rigging the 2016 primary against Sanders"

Some of the disinformation re: #Guccifer2.0 can be easily debunked by reading articles like the following:
The linked article here, authored by @with_integrity, also debunks claims made by the Mueller indictment which are cited in the above WaPo piece.
