My @Uber driver last night, going home from airport asked me where was I coming from.
Told here about #WCEU
- what is that, she asked.
- the European Conference for #WordPress, I said.
Her eyes sparkling, she grabbed the wheel firm, looked in the rear view mirror at me and said,
almost whispering:
- I installed that last week on my own, I want to sell accessories for women online, to support my kids.
No wedding ring on her hand, but I did not ask details, not sure if single mom or not.
Instead, once we arrived, I spent 30’ going over ecommerce options
for WordPress, recommended @WooCommerce, explained #SSL and #GDPR.
She only interrupted a few times to say “wait, wait!” as she was writing notes on her phone.
I was cold, exhausted, my family waiting inside, yet I was fascinated to share as much as possible with her. #WCEU
I am so blessed to have been able to learn technology on my own, but felt even better explaining my 20 years of domains+hosting+SSL+CMS(WordPress)+socialmedia+onlinemarketing and feeling that attitude of “I can do anything!” coming from her.
Yes, women ARE powerful, yes they
can do whatever they want and they should never be seen otherwise but equal to us, men.
I’m happy to be able to provide her a free year of @sucurisecurity services to help her young business grow, so she doesn’t have to work two jobs anymore, to provide for her child.
So yes,
I’m sick, cold, in bed, but I am so happy to see that just short of 4 years since joining @sucurisecurity I have been going to all these amazing community events in the tech world. And this is good, it unites us.
We’re so much more than the CMS we choose to build sites on.
We’re the people who make all of these @WordPress@drupal@joomla@magento etc services, enable people to get online.
Faster, easier, safer.
And for that, I applaud anyone who lets rheir hate and guard diwn, to choose love, diversity and dialogue, in the interest of us all.
Excuse the length of this thread, just wanted to say this, it’s been on my heart since last night.
If you represent a company who wants to help this woman, DM me, let’s talk.
Peace!
Update: I managed to get in touch with her today via @Uber and she is overwhelmed - all of you who DM-ed me, I’ll reach back to het your details so I can put you in touch.
So happy to see this kick off.
Thank you all!
Now how awesome would it be for her to be able to go through all the steps and then successfully share her story at #WCEU Berlin, next year on stage?
"From Uber driver to WordPress eCommerce store owner in one year."
I would sit through that talk like if it were an Oscar movie.
