ICE detention occupation in Portland:
Monday night blockade (thread) #OccupyICEPDX

Last night border abolitionists in Portland occupied an ICE facility, preventing ICE agents from leaving the building to go home. Around 10pm an agent attempted to leave, driving a large van. /1

Around 40 people gathered to block the van from the street. Portland's facility does not hold detained migrants overnight. People are held temporarily in cells in Portland, and ICE vans transport them to the Tacoma WA detention center, where they may stay for a long time. /2

Hence, not many ICE agents in Portland, and the ones working here have large vans.

The agent stared at blockaders with little to no expression. The crowd shouted "Are you trying to go home? Do you want to go home to your FAMILY? How HORRIBLE to be SEPARATED from your family" /3

Occupiers shined phone flashlights in the ICE agent's eyes and took his picture. He pulled down the sun visor in the van to block his face and called building security. The front windows of the van were cracked open. #OccupyICEPDX

People shouted into the van windows, "You fucking Nazi! You are the gestapo! History will find you wrong! You will be hunted down and tried at the Hague for crimes against humanity!"

A chant started, "Abolish ICE! No more ICE!"

One security guard walked out of the building /5

The security guard walked to the passenger window and shook his head at the blockaders, who continued to shout. He told the ICE agent, "I don't think they're going to leave." After a prolonged and hushed exchange with each other, the security guard returned to the building. /6

The ICE agent remained in the van. He stared at occupiers, who shouted "Undocumented! Unafraid!" Then the van pulled back into the building, behind a gate which closed in front of the van.

The crowd cheered. One person yelled, "That's the first good thing you've done all day"/7

The van and ICE agent were prevented from leaving the detention center. The Portland occupation is ongoing. You can support this; it needs more supplies.

You can also find the ICE facility closest to you and do the same. ICE is only 15 years old. We have the power to stop it. /8

And Abolish ICE everywhere. There are physical routes all over, such as between Portland and Tacoma, and they can be blocked.
