Our biggest excuse is when so many translations are available of every scripture that we ever want to read then why take up the extra load?
What we forget is much is lost in translation n each translation is affected by the translator’s individual understanding of the text.
Our scriptures are multi-layered. Every time we read, we may open another layer. But these layers are lost in translation n we read same layer each time, the one that translator opened. If it isnt in sync with our current spiritual stage, then we may miss the point entirely!
Sanskrit being Devbhasha is not only the language of tongue/pen, it isn't merely words conveying an idea, its also phonetically synced with our soul. When spoken with correct intonation, it is said to convey knowledge to the soul beyond the scope of written or spoken word.
In “Mahābhāśyam” of Maharishi Patanjali, it is proclaimed tht "एकः शब्दः सम्यग् ज्ञातः शुष्टुप्रयुक्तः स्वर्गे लोके कामधुक् भवति" – "One ‘word’ well understood in all its dimensions; well used in its pronunciation and purpose to convey an idea, may lead to spiritual emancipation”
Maharishi Patanjali elaborates tht cultured speech is part of "वाग्योगः" (the Yoga of speech).
He writes that the purpose of व्याकरणम् (Grammar) is to transform ordinary speech into refined one; to make भाषा “bhāṣā” into संस्कृतम् “saṃskṛtam”; to uplift human to superhuman.
All which is spoken is 'Vak' - both internally (as thoughts) n externally (as Speech). When we think, we think in words too – thus “vak” isn't just uttered as sounds in outer space, it also reverberates as thoughts in our inner space (Chidakasham). Thoughts are also part of “vak”
It has been proven thru magnetic imaging that our thoughts have a profound impact on our brain and heart functions; our consciousness. Therefore it goes without saying that refinement of the thought process (vak shuddhi) is an important tool in the realm of spiritual upliftment.
Scientific studies show Sanskrit spoken with proper pronunciation can even change the constitution of our blood. Acidic blood being the root of all illness, it is recommended to change it to alkaline to counter chronic diseases. Chanting of Sanskrit can bring about this change.
Effect of Sanskrit on Intellect:
Before study of certain Vidyas, student is reqd to chant a Sanskrit Sutra for days. It initiates profound changes in intellect, like a chisel sculpting the brain into a suitable shape for receiving/absorbing/interpreting that particular Vidya,
Our ancestors insisted that life be lived with intent, that we constantly work towards spiritual upliftment while dispensing daily duties towards family/society/self. Sanskrit is tightly linked with Sanskriti (culture) which in turn promotes Purushaarth (Purpose of Life).
Collectively 4 things define Prushaarth (purpose of human life), attained via cultured tongue: 1) Dharma (conduct) 2) Kama (desire fulfillment) 3) Artha (means or money) 4) Mokṣha (liberation).
Sanskrit thus is not just a tool to communicate - but also a gateway to Mokṣha.
Only when one’s speech (including thoughts) is truthful /controlled /precise /clear / refined / non-sarcastic /non-hurting /sweet /uplifting - then it is “Sanskrit” and achieving that is the goal of “Vag-Yoga”.
Let's all take a Sankalp (pledge) to learn Sankrit the Devbhasha. 🙏
Today is Vamana Dwadshi, the day Bhagwan Vishnu incarnated as a midget brahmin to tame the inflated ego of King Bali, grandson of Bhakta Prahlad and the erstwhile ruler of the three lokas. Read the story in the poetry thread that follows.
Mudras are specific hand positions used in Yogic tradition to facilitate smooth flow of various life energies through the human body. The word Mudra literally means ‘Seal’ (symbol) in Sanskrit. In Yoga each Mudra is a Seal of one specific life force.
Universe is made of 5 elements, and each finger represents one of them. The thumb represents Fire (universal consciousness); the index finger Air (individual consciousness); the middle finger Akasha (connection); the ring finger Earth (life); the little finger Water (flow).
When the 5 elements in our body lose their mutual balance, not only do we lose spiritual and emotional equilibrium; on the physical plane too various ailments can arise as a result. Mudras can help us restore that balance and gain direct benefits in all 3 spheres.
Why does gotra of a daughter change when married? Is there any logic behind it?
Infact there is an amazing genetical system we follow through Gotra Gyan.
The word GOTRA is formed by combination 2 sanskrit words Gau (cow) & Trahi (shed). So gotra basically means cowshed.
Gotra is like cowshed protecting a particular male lineage. We identify our male lineage/gotra as descendants of the 8 great Rishi (Saptarishi + Bharadwaj rishi). All other gotra evolved from these only.
Each human carries 23 pairs of chromosomes each with one from each parent.
