@Sony @AmazonStudios Both Mom & Josh were *rapt* during @malcolmbarrett 's kickass 'Michael' takedown of the racist 1930s cop. Josh (he's 11), picked up on the smug way the cop reacted, that there was no question he could and would put Rufus 'in his place' #SaveTimeless 2/

@Sony @AmazonStudios @malcolmbarrett Obviously he thought this was awful, and asked why. My mother gave him an interesting response - that at the time, there was a 'proper social order' and people like that saw themselves as protecting it. And they feared what happened if they failed. #SaveTimeless 3/

Josh's response was to wonder what that cop would be like if he had indeed survived to see Rufus's future come to pass. And what he (Josh) would do if he was in that jail w Rufus, Lucy, Wyatt #SaveTimeless 4/

The long and short is that my kid went to bed way too late last night, but not before he got a detailed, first-hand account from my mom of what it was like living during segregation. #SaveTimeless 5/

He came away knowing why it's important not to stay on the sidelines of the fights that matter. He came away with the sense that he can and should have a voice when he sees something that feels wrong. #SaveTimeless 6/

To get back to the point of why @sony and I hope, @AmazonStudios need to #SaveTimeless is that we're beginning to lose those first-hand voices. Segregation, the Holocaust, Civil Rights... we're 3 generations removed now, but 7/

@Sony @AmazonStudios more than ever, we need those stories told in a powerful way, a way that keeps us from forgetting. Because we're starting to, and that's a big part of the reason we're in the mess we're in in 2018. #SaveTimeless 8/
