Let’s say I owned a restaurant. “Steve’s International House of Pancakes and/or Burgers.”
Here’s how I’d handle things.
1) Come in wearing your MAGA hat? Welcome. Sit. Enjoy a pancake or a burger. I might not LIKE your hat but I can judge that in the privacy of my own mind.

There is a chance I might put on my 2008 “Obama” shirt (it’s shrunk a little, I’ve grown a little) out of my own pettiness, but you’d be served with great service. Also: If anybody who worked at my "IHOP and/or IHOb” was a jerk to you, I’d have a problem with that. But...

…if you were crappy to one of my hypothetical employees because of race/creed/faith? If you picked fights with other customers because of theirs? You can leave. And if somebody filmed you being terrible? Thems the breaks. That seems fair, right #PermitPatty? /3

…let’s live in a world where nobody is standing up saying “This is wrong.” Or even if they are, it's meaningless words, like Jeff Flake's. Let's say you aren’t changing you’re stance. That’s fine. Thats your choice. However, you are in Steve’s hypothetical “IHOP and/or IHOb.” /5

That’s where I politely ask you to leave. I wouldn’t make a scene. I wouldn’t have people boo you. I would speak kindly and quietly. I would speak my peace and let you know your actions have consequences. I'd suggest you get a burger and/or pancake elsewhere. /6

It’s possible to take a principled stance without being a jerk. I say this after a decade of Teapublicans with stuffed monkeys and birtherism. I say this: WHAT YOU ARE SEEING NOW IS US BEING CIVIL. /7

In the face of #BabyJails and #TrumpConcentrationCamps and the daily attacks on diverse communities, WE ARE BEING CIVIL. Calls for accountability are NOT calls for violence. That's how civil people disagree. /8

If you’re a regular person and we cross paths? I might disagree with you, but by all means, go your own way. I’ll see you at the ballot box. I hope your November 7th is miserable. BUT… /9

If you are a person with power, and you are using that power to hurt, crush or silence people I care about? (BTW: Nice coat, Melania). If you are responsible for separating families or kidnapping babies? My hypothetical restaurant - and patience - is FULLY COMMITTED. /10
