newsrooms seem weirdly desperate to pretend half of America supports Kavanaugh—it’s not even close
I noted for weeks how Kavanaugh’s historic, unprecedented awful polling numbers were mostly being flushed down the memory hole—it interfered w/ media’s preferred “deeply divided” storyline
Susan Collins is facing an extraordinary legacy: voting for a chronic liar and accused sexual assaulter nominated to SCOTUS by president whole lost the popular vote, all in order to take way legal choice for women.
btw, she thinks the FBI sham investigation was "thorough." so.....
here’s what’s blindingly obvious—if Kavanaugh was interviewed by FBI and told the truth, he wouldn’t become Supreme Court Justice. if he lied, he’d open himself up to legal jeopardy. so WH made sure FBI didn’t interview Kavanaugh
it’s astonishing, but GOP is trying to confirm to Supreme Court somebody **they don’t trust to talk to FBI**
pretty ironic: guy who when he worked for Ken Starr demanded Bill Clinton answer questions abt sex under oath today is too chicken to answer Q’s from FBI agents
WH couldn't risk Kavanaugh lying to FBI agents, so seems pretty clear the strategy was he could not be questioned. ever. under any circumstances; washingtonpost.com/world/national…
so instead, FBI cooperated with a charade.
great job Christopher Wray!
think about: a Supreme Court nominee could not be trusted to tell the truth to the FBI.
in a weird way, this is the part of the Kavanaugh testimony i keep thinking abt.
Sen. Whitehouse asked abt "FFFF" on his calander. Kavanaugh described how is pal stuttered when he said the f-word; how it was inside joke.
watch as he imitates his friend.
to me it was the rare window into 1980's Kavanugh, the way he raised his fist and wound up the f-word like his friend did--reenacting how he and his buddies talked and socialized back in HS
to me, there was something instantly recognizable about it. as someone who grew up in white suburbia jock culture in the 1980s, i knew a ton of guys like Kavanaugh.
that's how they talked and bullied and treated all of life like everything was a varsity game
