You both make solid points, but I'm inclined to agree with @iDirectorX that the Democrats/liberals look clueless when they argue from a position that implies they believe at any level that McConnell is honorable and not at his core a gangster.
I think @iDirectorX hits the nail on the head by describing McConnell as a "con man." He didn't just steal a Supreme Court seat. He conned the public and the Democrats.
I recall Obama & the Dems' misguided hashtag "#doyourjob." McConnell *was* doing his job. He was pulling a long con.
"Let the people decide" was like the "give me money and you'll meet my gorgeous sister" scam. Hell, the GOP even *admitted* they had no intention of living up to their end of the bargain before Trump was even elected -- when everyone thought HRC would likely win.
So Democrats look foolish showing up wondering when they're going to meet McConnell's hot sister while he's already cleaned out their bank account.
It's not normalizing McConnell's corruption to call him out on it, as Obama should've done in 2016: "McConnell is stealing a SCOTUS and he's conning moderates into thinking there's a principle behind it."
McConnell has the power to confirm a justice, so he will. Just as he had the power to deny hearings for one. The only way to stop him is to actively pressure Collins or any other Republican who could swing from the majority on this.

Isn't this also more an employment issue than a legal one? This came up with Franken, who I also thought should've resigned. "Due process" and "presumption of innocence" are important when talking about putting someone in jail. Here we're talking abt not putting someone on SCOTUS
Roy Moore and Al Franken weren't deprived of a natural right (their "freedom"). They lost Senate seats, which are obviously privileges that a rare number of people enjoy.
When a former teacher or coworker comments on your past performance, they aren't treated like witnesses at a trial. They don't testify under oath nor are their cross examined.

Obama "lectures" us is racist. Hillary "lectures" us is sexist. Period. It's especially obvious coming from the "traditional values, personal responsibility crowd." They curiously don't consider white men telling, say, women or LGBT how to behave "lecturing."
It's such a fascinating scam. "I'm not racist or a misogynist. I just take issue with black men or women leading or commanding us. If they can find a way to lead a country as commander in chief without doing that, I'm all for it."
"Did you see Jeff Flake's moving rebuttal of Trump on the Senate floor? Or how McCain used to take it to Trump? That's leadership! When Booker or Obama do anything similar, it's lecturing. When Harris or Hillary do it, my penis falls off."

A friend shared @rubyhamad ‘s article on his FB page. His (white) women friends responded about how kt was “annoying” and “racist.” (“I never say all black women do this!”) There was non ironic tone policing (it would be more “persuasive” if she’d said “some” white women do this)
But that’s not what blew my mind.

These white women were all self-described feminists.

This was their first time seeing the article. Or even hearing the term “white women tears.”

Until their white male friend shared it.
One of the white women furious over @rubyhamad ‘s article teaches African American lit.

I’ll try to be fair to Collins for a hot second.

Let’s say it’s 2021 and Pres. Harris has nominated a replacement for RBG. Doug Jones meets with them and attempts to calm his constituents about right wing fears the judge will be hostile to the 2nd Amendment.
I can see Jones making a similar statement, but Democrats are far more moderate on the issue and their extreme positions are clearly laid out (assault weapons ban’
Republicans are far more extreme about overturning Roe. I know few elected Democrats who’ve suggested repealing the 2nd amendment.

The person who wrote the @nytimes how to have a "real conversation" about race op-ed is both a racist and an idiot. That is the extent of my interest in a "real conversation" with them.
"I'm not racist. I just have a Confederate flag on my car to honor dead people I never met, whose feelings matter more to me than actual living black people. Also, never talk to me about slavery. The lynching museum is rude."
"Taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespectful. Worse than actual police violence against black people, which I don't care about. Cops are great. It's Obamacare that's fascism!"

I bet the vast Robinson fortune that you will not criticize how Paul Ryan spends his post-Speakership years even though he presided over the complete surrendering of the GOP to Trump.
This just reminds me of how "inside baseball" political pundits have become. All they care about is the number of home runs. Obama and HRC might have lost on a literal level but they can also sleep at night. Shouldn't that count for something? And it's a problem that it doesn't.
No one questions W. Bush enjoying Texas brisket and painting while his Republican successor in the White House possibly conspired with a hostile foreign power.
