Isn't this also more an employment issue than a legal one? This came up with Franken, who I also thought should've resigned. "Due process" and "presumption of innocence" are important when talking about putting someone in jail. Here we're talking abt not putting someone on SCOTUS Roy Moore and Al Franken weren't deprived of a natural right (their "freedom"). They lost Senate seats, which are obviously privileges that a rare number of people enjoy.

Obama "lectures" us is racist. Hillary "lectures" us is sexist. Period. It's especially obvious coming from the "traditional values, personal responsibility crowd." They curiously don't consider white men telling, say, women or LGBT how to behave "lecturing." It's such a fascinating scam. "I'm not racist or a misogynist. I just take issue with black men or women leading or commanding us. If they can find a way to lead a country as commander in chief without doing that, I'm all for it."

A friend shared @rubyhamad ‘s article on his FB page. His (white) women friends responded about how kt was “annoying” and “racist.” (“I never say all black women do this!”) There was non ironic tone policing (it would be more “persuasive” if she’d said “some” white women do this) But that’s not what blew my mind.

These white women were all self-described feminists.

This was their first time seeing the article. Or even hearing the term “white women tears.”

Until their white male friend shared it.

I’ll try to be fair to Collins for a hot second.

Let’s say it’s 2021 and Pres. Harris has nominated a replacement for RBG. Doug Jones meets with them and attempts to calm his constituents about right wing fears the judge will be hostile to the 2nd Amendment. I can see Jones making a similar statement, but Democrats are far more moderate on the issue and their extreme positions are clearly laid out (assault weapons ban’

The person who wrote the @nytimes how to have a "real conversation" about race op-ed is both a racist and an idiot. That is the extent of my interest in a "real conversation" with them. "I'm not racist. I just have a Confederate flag on my car to honor dead people I never met, whose feelings matter more to me than actual living black people. Also, never talk to me about slavery. The lynching museum is rude."

I bet the vast Robinson fortune that you will not criticize how Paul Ryan spends his post-Speakership years even though he presided over the complete surrendering of the GOP to Trump. This just reminds me of how "inside baseball" political pundits have become. All they care about is the number of home runs. Obama and HRC might have lost on a literal level but they can also sleep at night. Shouldn't that count for something? And it's a problem that it doesn't.

I was raised to respect military heroes and show compassion toward anyone dying from a terminal illness. I was also raised to do the same to women and my elders, but @HillaryClinton never received this consideration. When I was a kid, if you'd told me that Nancy Reagan would run for political office, I'd assume that there'd be some deference shown to her as a former First Lady who was eligible for social security.

Even Margaret Thatcher deserves better than to have Meghan McCain quoting her stupidly. Especially since a lot of what @Ocasio2018 proposes, the UK already has. "The problem with socialism..." quote from Thatcher is not her finest moment. She attacks socialism on capitalist principles ("other people's money").

Clara: Doctor, what are you going to do?
The Doctor: I don’t know. Talk very fast, hope something good happens. Take the credit. That’s generally how it works. I thought that DOCTOR WHO lampshaded something I thought was a weakness in the series hero for a while. Because life isn't that easy. It's why Capaldi became my favorite Doctor in the episode "Heaven Sent."

Why do supposed serious people entertain the notion that Biden could've beaten Trump in 2016 when the actual fundamentals of the race dispute that in every possible way? OK, I get it -- not an icky girl, but really, that's all you're basically saying when you agree with this absurd Biden Triumphant premise.

Seriously, here's what's dumb about "compromising" with ex-Republicans. They aren't leaving the party for any policy-related reason but because the party is corrupt. That's the dilemma that has Jeff Flake denouncing Trump on the Senate floor but voting with him most of the time. If Trump is removed by 2020 (unlikely), *most* of these "ex-Republicans" would back Pence or Romney/Flake, etc in the 2020 election. They aren't a reliable part of the Democratic coalition.

I dunno. SUPERMAN III is kind of fun. It's the closest we've gotten to a straight-up movie version of a Silver Age Superman story.

OK, I’m gonna chat a bit about Buffy, Insatiable, and comic books. Yes, I know, bear with me. The really tired plot of #Insatiable reminded me more of the revenge fantasy of Carrie than the redemption fantasies (w. the “revenge” more subtle) of male-centered superhero stories, where the marginalized outsider gains great powers (Captain America, Spider-Man, etc)

When I had you to myself, I didn't want you around
Those pretty faces always make you stand out in a crowd
But someone picked you from the bunch, one glance is all it took
Now it's much too late for me to take a second look Oh baby, give me one more chance
(To show you that I love you)
Won't you please let me back in your heart
Oh darlin', I was blind to let you go
(Let you go, baby)
But now since I've seen you it is on
(I want you back)

Can we talk about stupid this is? How does Trump even know this? Putin told him?

Yep, and it was more than a government program. It was a coordinated military attack, “savvier” and “cleaner” than launching a bomb or staging an assassination. The GOP’s current narrative for Russia’s election attack is that OK, it happened, but it didn’t succeed. Yet, that’s materially false: Putin has admitted that Trump was the candidate he wanted in office and he’s benefitting from that in every way. He likely thinks he succeeded.

Sitcom rules dictated that Chandler and Janie would've eventually wound up together. I go back and forth on Chandler and Monica. In a way, it came from nowhere, despite some later retroactive continuity (Monica's revealed "crush" on Chandler).

Flipping WI was part of a longshot path for Trump to 270. Note that he had to win every battleground state to win and most of those victories were razor thin. It’s not like Obama campaigned heavily in the state in 2012, which he won decisively despite Ryan on the ticket.

Have to respectfully disagree there. I thought the Nolan Batman films lacked personality. IRON MAN also holds up more to me *as a superhero fan* than DARK KNIGHT, which was released the same year. The Frank Miller influenced version of Batman makes me uneasy as I get older and see the links to right-wing vigilantism. This scene from YEAR ONE makes Bruce Wayne seem like Travis Bickle, which is all wrong.

I love FRIENDS but, man, the fat and queer jokes do not age well. The “show was of its time” argument isn’t that convincing when its peers included WILL & GRACE and SEX & THE CITY.

I get slammed a lot for being "undemocratic" or "self-serving" when I say "Why can't @HillaryClinton be president now?" but honestly, what is the legal recourse here? Impeachment and removal from office are Constitutional remedies for crimes a president has committed while in office. I don't see where the founders considered that the crime itself was getting in office in the first place.
