STATEMENT: THE IHRA DEFINITION OF ANTISEMITISM

As so many have failed to appreciate @JennieGenSec’s improvements to the document agreed by academics & approved by 31 nations, it falls to me (just the right person) to Jewsplain antisemitism to the ungrateful: <thread>

These are the four items we dropped from the definition, with my meticulous, learned and humble anti-racist explanation of why the Labour Party has done so, clearly demonstrating how omission improves the fight against ‘the oldest hatred’.

Suppose my friend, the vicar Rev. Sizer, says “Mossad did 9/11” (He did) & a British jew says “that’s antisemitic” (they did)-then I say, l “you’re only saying that because he’s pro-Palestinian” (I did). Well, the Jew can’t get away with such sneaky allegiance to Israel!Dropped!

Suppose I want to say, reasonably: “Israel, among the nations, is an apartheid vile racist cancer that uniquely, must be excised to make the world healthy” (my supporters often do). The idea this projects ancient tropes about Jews onto the Jewish state is ridiculous. Dropped!

If I want to go on hundreds of anti-Israel marches for the oppressed Palestinians, alongside genocidal terrorist groups yelling “The Jews did Grenfell” (as they have) and then totally ignore the Syrian regime’s slaughter of the Palestinians in Yamouk, that’s my business. Dropped!

Finally and importantly, this. If I want to call your aged Auntie, who escaped a British camp to get to Israel after her parents and siblings perished in Auschwitz - & who still wakes up in the night screaming - a Nazi, I should feel totally free to do so. How dare you? Dropped!
