Thread 1) In response to this petition shared by @simonbruni, people have said the solution #citizensrights is to Remain in EU. They are right, but meantime many EU27 and EFTA citizens in UK live with insecurity and uncertainty over settled status. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/2201…
2) This Perth for Europe member was given two weeks, during school holidays, to provide extra information to the Home office or have her citizenship application refused. Luckily she was only away for a week. heraldscotland.com/news/15610885.…
We asked MP @PeteWishart to get involved. His office deal with this type of issue frequently – it's not a one off, but part of the #HostileEnvironment. And what of EU27 citizens who can't afford the £1300+ to get citizenship? Or from countries which don't allow dual nationality?
4) What of the Lithuanian, born into the old USSR for whom a Lithuanian passport is hugely significant? Or the Austrian who has lived here for years, who wants to know if they can go back and look after elderly relatives and then return? Neither country allows dual nationality.
5) And why should people feel they have to apply for British nationality anyway? But they will be relying on settled status – they will have to apply and – if accepted – will face a reduction in their current rights. newstatesman.com/politics/brexi…
7) We held a European Citizens evening when @speakgoodbrand and two German citizens spoke about their experiences. Watch it and you will realise it is not enough to wait until #Brexit is beaten.
8) So this petition is to expose the broken promises of Vote Leave and to support EU27 and EFTA citizens living here. Govt only acted over #Windrush due to public outrage. Where is the public outrage over settled status? Please sign and retweet. End petition.parliament.uk/petitions/2201…
