"If I were still an active CIA officer at the senior leadership level, I would seriously have to consider resigning ...."

"#HelsinkiSummit: A Time for Choosing"
By Rolf Mowatt-Larssen (@BelferCenter)

justsecurity.org/59497/rolf-mow…
Former senior CIA officer: "This is a time for choosing. Government officials, senior and junior alike, take an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States, not to obey any single President...."
"...The calculus of whether to resign or stay must be based on whether one is able to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States from within or from without. Serving the interests of this president is not serving the country."

A criminal case against Donald Trump would turn the weaknesses in the prosecution of John Edwards into strengths.

@ThePaulSRyan on the alleged wrongdoing at the center of the Michael Cohen #HushMoney campaign finance scandal
justsecurity.org/60415/prosecut…
A key that could unlock the case against Trump:

"Cohen’s plea documents indicate a host of other people were involved... One of those individuals, the President of AMI has already 'provided prosecutors with details about payments…including Mr. Trump’s knowledge of the deals.'"
Edwards: "DOJ presented no evidence that Hunter was planning or threatening to speak to the press about her affair…Edwards’ lawyers made a big deal out of this"

Trump: "McDougal and Clifford were in negotiation with national media outlets to sell the rights to their stories"

The @StateDept's annual Human Trafficking report was unveiled last week against the backdrop of the Trump admin's "zero-tolerance" border policy, which perpetuates the very dangers the report warns about, writes @brookemellison. justsecurity.org/59535/human-tr…
From the @StateDept's Human Trafficking report, released last week: "Children in institutional care, including government-run facilities, can be easy targets for traffickers."

Important dissection of why and how Russia would have targeted Donald Trump.

By former senior CIA Russia expert Mowatt-Larssen (@BelferCenter)

justsecurity.org/57914/trump-ru…
Why would Russia approach Trump campaign multiple times if already had channel to Donald Trump?

Mowatt-Larssen:
"Based on well-practiced history, intelligence services typically hold off making a direct approach to high priority targets for years."
Why would Russia approach lower level Trump associates?

Mowatt-Larssen:
"Even if the Russians were ultimately unsuccessful in compromising Trump directly, they would have been content to compromise and exploit lesser targets along the way–minnows with access to the big fish."

Breaking NYT publishes Trump lawyers' memo to Mueller claiming President cannot obstruct justice. Document: nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Re-up: @DanielJHemel (prof @UChicagoLaw): "Why Trump’s Lawyer is Dead Wrong on Obstruction of Justice"
justsecurity.org/47662/trumps-l…
"Declaration of Independence charged King George with 'obstruct[ing] the administration of justice, by refusing his assent to the laws for establishing judiciary powers.'...evidence that the founding generation did not believe heads of state were immune from obstruction charges."
"The first article of impeachment approved by the House Judiciary Committee charged Nixon with obstructing justice by endeavoring to influence an FBI investigation into the break-in at DNC headquarters. That article passed the committee by 27-11 with six Republicans joining."

We promise this is chocked full of insights:

Professors @alexgwhiting (@Harvard_Law) and @rgoodlaw (@nyulaw) team up:

"What Mueller’s Questions Reveal About the Future of the #RussiaInvestigation"

justsecurity.org/55562/muellers…
"Mueller’s questions about collusion show that it is likely that Mueller has already identified crimes involving collusion–such as a conspiracy to defraud the United States...–and Mueller is asking here only about Trump’s possible knowledge and personal involvement." /2
"The Mueller questions indicate that the House Intelligence Committee Majority completed its investigation into collusion prematurely ... and show that the majority’s report may have a short shelf life, soon to be overtaken by other revelations and events." /3
