Trump asked the Saudis to turn up their production by 2 million barrels a day as if:

- It was a knob they could be easily adjusted even if the oil was available.
- KSA isn't already at peak production they have never surpassed 10.5 million barrels a day. What they do now.

Gahwar oil field (biggest in the world) in Saudi Arabia discovered in early 30s has been continuously used since then. They have to pump millions of gallons of sea water into one side of it to push the oil out the other. Unless you think Oil can renew itself KSA is at #PeakOil

It's really fascinating when you look at oil production values from the largest countries they seem to top out at 10.5 million barrels a day. We hit that in 1971 and actually because of fracking and oil shale we are close to it again. Russia and KSA are basically there.

The issue is discovery of new wells is basically non existant and most oil producing countries have been at a decline for a while. Russia has the best options while we resort to fracking the land and horribly polluting everything to get close to 1971 production values.

Saudi Arabia seem to acknowledge that the future is not oil, a non renewable resource, and they are attempting to shift away. Maybe they are getting nervous about their ancient wells. We all should be. American still consumes 50% more oil that she produces a stagnant figure.

We might think dirty, wasteful technology like shale oil and fracking will save us but the issue is the EROIs. The amount of energy that it takes to extract dirty and hard to get oil means prices will go up. When they cross $80 a barrel recessions are guaranteed.

Sorry to make this thread so long but Trump's actions against Venezuela and Iran are baffling. The whole "regime is evil" line doesn't acknowledge the Saudis are way worse than anyone else. Also the global economy cannot absorb such a hit in oil production from sanctions.
