(5) Per CBS: Shooter remains defiant, threatening to start shooting again if Police attempt a breach. Also, shooter is wounded.
(6) Press briefing underway. Late teens male suspect. Shot grandmother & another female. Took grandmother's vehicle, and the other female victim with him. Confirms suspect is still barricaded. PD doesn't know how many inside.
One female patient, stable, transported to hospital.
(7) Per LAPD: No LEOs or firefighters injured.
(8) Confirmation above & below that:
>An officer involved shooting occurred
>No LEOs were wounded
>The suspect is wounded
(9) LEO standing up in the armored vehicle outside the store (shooter can see him). Other LEOs to the side are walking around calmly. I'd say that side wall is solid, with no windows.
(10) File photo of the Trader Joe's from the side.
(11) The woman who was a passenger in the car was not seriously injured; was able to walk from the car when rescued. She is reportedly in her 20s. Unclear whether she or someone else was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
(13) Per CBS @ComstockNews: "Police are still trying to negotiate with a barricaded shooting suspect inside a #SilverLake#TraderJoes - we’re hearing at least a handful of people are still being held against their will the store."
(14) Just saw the shooter being walked out of the store by Police. #SilverLake
(17) One woman was killed inside the #TraderJoes. She was brought out by Police and treated, but pronounced dead at the scene.
Per Mayor at press briefing.
(18) Estimated 40-50 people inside the building initially, including employees, customers, children. Some escaped, some were released by the suspect.
Mayor gave the number for family and friends to call: 323 561 3211.
(19) Approx 28 yo suspect. He dragged the female passenger to the car. Police were able to track the stolen vehicle using technology. Suspect shot at Police through his rear window multiple times while in pursuit. Used a handgun. Surrendered after 3 hours.
Per Police Chief.
(20) People in the store barricaded themselves in different places within. PD still identifying & assisting them.
(21) The grandmother is alive - in critical condition and undergoing her second surgery. She was shot 7 times.
(22) Mayor interrupts to correct info he gave moments ago: Says he can't confirm whether/not she's alive atm. Police Chief adds that the most recent update about her is that she is in critical condition.
(24) In my experience, a lot of active shooter situations turn out to have no fatalities & no or few injuries, so they're not all tweeted about by POTUS until it's over.
In this case he did tweet about it - I assume he'd been told of the fatality & <40 potential hostages.
>The grandmother's condition has improved from critical to stable.
>The deceased woman was Melyda Corano, the store manager, shot while running away from the initial gunfire.
(26) Shooter was 28yo Gene Evin Atkins, who had lived with his now 78yo grandmother since age 8 (mother a drug addict, father in prison.) She had sought protective order from him in 2000.
(27) Police said there was a pursuit between when he shot his grandmother at 1.30pm and 3.30pm when he crashed outside Trader Joe's. It will be interesting to later learn more details about that time period.
Incredible that there was only one fatality over the 5 hours.

(2) Brett M. Kavanaugh will soon be the 102nd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA. He has earned this highest honor throughout his life, inspired by his trailblazing mother, Judge Martha Kavanaugh.
His title for these few hours is Associate Justice Designate.
(3) This statement from the Supreme Court explains the two ceremonies:
(2) This WaPo reporter is incorrect about the vote being "scheduled for" Saturday. The earliest time a vote COULD be held is Saturday pm. There's no reason not to hold it on Sun/Mon IF we need Daines. I think we won't. Read my 5 tweets about him here:
(1) A directory of my Kavanaugh threads since July 9, 2018.
I never planned more than a couple of threads about him this year but, I shoulda known the Dems would try to destroy whoever was the nominee this time.
(2) Like Democrats, I'd already decided how I felt about him before his nomination was announced. I live-tweeted the announcement, which was a great event in itself.
(3) I followed Kavanaugh's progress over the summer and on September 22nd, I finally wrote a thread about the preparations for the all-important hearing on September 27th. It covers the hearing before the next thread started the day after.
(2) Mitch laughing to himself about how absurd it is that he has to push his way through the crowd of reporters on 9/25/18.
(3) Sen Grassley is 85 years old. (Democrats have senators around that age, too.)
Today he had to hold onto a Capitol Police officer to reduce the risk of a reporter knocking him over. This has to stop. Senators must return to being able to walk around freely at work.
(2) First Lady Melania Trump is a natural in this important role.
She's one of those women whose face lights up whenever she is around children. God Bless our great First Lady.

(3) FLOTUS left Joint Base Andrews in her trademark high heels and arrived in Ghana wearing practical flats. She still looks sensational, whatever she happens to wear!
(2) Cloture in the Senate is a procedural step that you can learn more about at the link below. The senate.gov website is the best resource for learning about Senate procedure and a lot more. Same for house.gov.
(3) Watching live Senate floor proceedings is boring as hell, as they pass bills for naming Post Offices, & so on. But every now & then, they confirm a SCOTUS judge. And this time, they will affirm our great #BillOfRights#DueProcess & the hard-won #RuleOfLaw. Seriously. 🇺🇸🦅
