I think what separates normal Trump opponents on the right from those who have become deluded, and what prevents those critics from backing moderate Dems, is the inability to recognize that the left has just as many crazy ass elements as the right does
It’s one thing to oppose Trump because he’s an insane, unconservative manchild. It’s another to pretend that his opponents on the left are sane and will save the republic in office. I’m not going to pretend Kamala Harris is great or #AbolishICE is normal or socialism is okay.
Now if you want to advocate for a particular Democrat as an acceptable alternative, fine. I’m with you. If you want to make a case for, say, a Biden who is a known element with more moderate and established governance, I’m all ears. But just pretending “the left” is better, no.
Which distinguishes a Trump critic on the right, who opposes him but wants to see a non-equally-crazy alternative, with the deluded elements who want to pretend the gun-banning, Venezuela-apologist, racist-coddling, wealth-confiscating Ellison and Warren elements are better
And before you say “the left isn’t Ellison and Warren”, Ellison is DNC Vice Chair and Warren a powerful senator the left has culturally elevated to be a natural candidate for POTUS. The party is no less willing to abide left-wing insanity than the GOP is right-wing insanity.
The left doesn’t oppose crazy and racism. It opposes crazies and racists who don’t agree with their agenda. Yes, one party’s crazy is a bigger issue at the moment because it’s in power. But an inability to recognize the other would cause the same crisis in power, delusional.
If Democrats want to attract righty Trump opponents and Indies who are lukewarm, they need to offer a non-crazy alternative. Or people will stick with the racist crazy mofo who *won’t* confiscate their wealth and guns and throw open borders, versus a racist crazy mofo who will.
Until the day comes that the Democratic Party sees an issue with a Vice Chair who makes apologia for Islamist antisemitic and anti-American assholes, or drives from power a Congressman who talks about “the Jewish question”, I’m going to assume their issue isn’t the bigotry.
Until they recognize that yes, coddling AltRight Nazi assholes is a threat to the republic, but so is coddling antisemitic Islamist terror-apologia assholes, there’s no reason people on the right or the middle should assume they’d be any less crazy or a threat in office. Sorry.
