WASHINGTON ā Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today announced that the Committee will hold a public hearing with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
āAs I said earlier, anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has done deserves to be heard. My staff has reached out to Dr. Ford to hear her account, and they held a follow-up call with Judge Kavanaugh this afternoon.

Thread on the second Ezra Klein tweet in recent days that, I believe, frames an important problem badly, and dangerously so. (The first was on Trump's view of history.) This one manages to be bad in multiple ways. 1/
First, he elevates business (Silicon Valley) at the expense of politics (DC), invoking a false dichotomy. As @margaretomara and many other historians have shown, Silicon Valley would not exist were it not for the federal government. 2/
Second, by invoking "DC" and its inability to solve problems, Klein is sowing further doubt about the possibility of government to do good. Like the first misconception (that business and the state are totally separate entities), this diminishes the realm of politics. 3/

That's a strange way to say rape. Also uses "alleges" to cast doubt on the story. It even includes this important note "An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."

First, the global trade system is disastrous for the world's workers, both in the U.S. and overseas. The reason is that capital mobility and international legal regimes and disconnected companies from any responsibility to anywhere or anything but shareholders.
Like the late 19th century, recent changes in capitalism have slapped us in the face and we don't really know how to respond. One of those changes is extreme capital mobility wrapped up in neoliberal trade agreements. How do we respond on the left?
I think what separates normal Trump opponents on the right from those who have become deluded, and what prevents those critics from backing moderate Dems, is the inability to recognize that the left has just as many crazy ass elements as the right does
Itās one thing to oppose Trump because heās an insane, unconservative manchild. Itās another to pretend that his opponents on the left are sane and will save the republic in office. Iām not going to pretend Kamala Harris is great or #AbolishICE is normal or socialism is okay.
Now if you want to advocate for a particular Democrat as an acceptable alternative, fine. Iām with you. If you want to make a case for, say, a Biden who is a known element with more moderate and established governance, Iām all ears. But just pretending āthe leftā is better, no.
