#History has it that they became friends who couldn’t live without one another. A day when the #Muslim friend suffered a fit, he went down crying “Ram, Ram” which shocked his family. Later they realised he was chanting his friend’s name. #India
The two friends were great sons of #India Ram Prasad #Bismil and #Ashfaqullah Khan Warsi. They become friends, they lived and died together. #History has it that in his short life where he faced huge treacheries , #Ashfaq was the one who #Bismil trusted as soul brother.
In Lucknow convention of #Congress , the reception committee wanted to sideline #Tilak and avoid huge public reception planned by the people and mainly students of Lucknow. They felt this would eclipse the stature of rich lawyer lobby.
The reception committee had planned taking #Tilak through out of city detour to the venue and tried to keep his arrival a secret. Students blocked the road and took the public procession through the city. #Bismil and other students pulled his carriage instead of horses.
Flowers were showered and the Committee seethed with anger. The Committee was headed by a Congressman called JagatNarain Mulla. Mr Mulla was a prominent Lawyer and close friend of Motilal Nehru.
On this day, 9th of August, 1925, Govt treasury being taken in the Train was looted at #Kakori near Lucknow. This was planned by key leaders of HRA (Hindustān Republican Army) , #RamPrasadBismil and #AshfaqullahKhan .
Honest and true to the cause, they took 8000 Rupees from the Government treasury on the train. No passengers were looted. A man who stepped out, named Ahmad Ali was shot in confusion. The British brought in the charge of man-slaughter on this account.
#Bismil in his autobiography regretted having given the gun to a greenhorn. He was arrested on 26th September, 1925. #AshfaqullahKhan was arrested in Delhi, 9 months later.
A total of 40 people were arrested on the charges of #KakoriTrainRobbery . The #Trial began on 21st of May, 1926 in the special session court of Judge Hamilton. The man who stood on the other side, acting as Public Prosecutor, was Senior Congressman, Jagat Narain Mulla.
Jagat Narain Mulla headed the reception committee during the 1916 Lucknow convention which I wrote about. A great Lawyer, Jagat Narayan Mulla, brought the trial to quick closure, with 4 men, #Bismil, #Ashfaq , Rajindra Nath Lahiri and Roshan Singh, sentenced to death.
The whereabouts of the descendants of #Bismil , #Ashfaq isn’t much known, except that Bismil’s mother died in penury, almost blind. The son of Jagat Narain Mulla, Anand Narain Mulla became Judge in Allahabad High Court. He got Sahitya Academy award in 64, and Iqbal Award
Anand Narain Mulla was elected to Loksabha as an independent in 1967, and was placed as an elder on Rajya Sabha in 1972, as a #Congress nominee.
